Huawei GSM modem

unless you are in Greece and on the Wind network in which case the 3 software doesn't even see the wind network :)

A 3 Huawei unlocked modem will see the WIND network in Greece if you first download the "WIND Hellas Connection Manager" software (from their web site) on to your laptop. We've been successfully using this method all year.

Sticking my neck out here - not absolutely sure but my experience indicates:-

Huawei site is not very helpful as they say they only supply to OEM's

There are links to downloads if you google, but some of these don't work with W7.

  • There's a difference between unlocking the modem, and unbranding it.
  • Unlocking allows any SIM to be used, unbranding removes the network supplier's control panel.
  • Unlocking is very cheap on eBay - £1 or even less, one lady - Member ID jj1981ltd sends complete instructions as well and very quickly.
  • IME Vodafone, and "3" control panels will connect to competitors networks with the appropriate SIM inserted, so there's no absolute need to unbrand the unit, unless you want to monitor the connection speed etc.
  • t-mobile's version of Mobile Partner works with W7, but you get a message if using others' SIMs. Press OK and it connects anyway
.

Enough for now as all this info was not part of the request...

I have a Huawei dongle (02) which should be unlockable.
Just been on the Huawei website for the nth time - still can't find the software. Help would be appreciated!

Michael.

This is the t-mobile version of Huawei's Mobile Manager
It works with others (K3565, E122), It's the program only - updates the virtual CD-Rom on the stick, which then downloads to your PC when you reconnect the dongle. Don't use the firmware version (aslo on t-mobile's site).

It may be possible to only update the PC's version - without adding it to the dongle. Try not connecting the dongle and see what happens.

You should be able to view the CdRom on the stick. This contains the suppilers control panel. If you like to take backups, save it to a folder on your PC; but you wont be able to copy it back to the stick.

OK....I have the latest unbranded Mobile Partner with statistics etc, the latest Huawei Firmware for all modern modems and the latest W7 drivers.

If anyone would like them PM me. I cant do it for everyone, but I dont mind a few.
They are largish files.

There is a huge difference between unlocking and debranding, debranding requires you to re-flash the device with new S/W and the failure rate is high and best left to an expert.

There is a place on the internet that does unlocking for free online here:

http://a-zgsm.com/huawei.php

Just put in your IMEI number and a security code and voila!!

Huawei have taken the latest generic software off their site, at the request of some tier 1 carriers.

To use the unlock code you will need to have installed the generic Huawei MP, then put an unfamilar SIM card into the device from another network, MP will come up with a code box and you enter your code in there and done...!!

Hope this helps
