Well about a week to go and Anna Sira has topped the £1000 barrier...

How much will the Dinorwic Centaur go for ........

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westerly-...ng_Goods_Sailing_Boats_ET&hash=item258a14d40b

There have been numerous keel kickers and hull tappers having a look around the last few days.

The marina pumped out the internal swimming pool and gave her topsides a jetwash before taking those pictures!

The combined minds of the NW Mob are astounded by the prices some of these boats are fetching. Ironically the least interest is in the one that was still afloat at the end of last year!

fascinating stuff

I think time of year is also important

it is a lesson to us all to put the boat on the market in the spring and to not lose your nerve

D

I would have thought the boat was worth around that much. Other than the internal water and consequent damage the condition was not too bad. The PBO Hantu Biru was £500 in far worse condition and with no equipment. Still nearly a week to go, though. Plenty of scope for uncontrolled bidding.

Yeah, 53 quid for a Leisure 17 is practically up to the cost of a round of drinks already, way too dear.

I think it's an Albin Viggen

+1 It's a mini Vega

In my view Martlet is the best of the bunch there. A little Swedish Gem of small boat design. Will handle some rough stuff, Ideal little starter boat just add water and clean up the inside. She was the only one of the wrecks that still floated last year.

Probably sails a lot quicker than a Centaur.

Mind you the boat in front of Martlet is the same length but a lot quicker!

You have bought a round in the Gardffon with the full NW MOB then?

I think that Leisure 17 was used as a urinal for a number of years judging by the contents of the bilges......

Thanks for the replies Mavanier, TSB240 and lotusman. The Viggen has rather attractive lines and even Martlet, the slightly neglected one being auctioned, seems to be a fair bit of boat for not very much money. Having a Jouster, the last thing I need at the moment is another fin keeler and associated costs, so certainly won't be bidding, but I thought it looked to have promise. If it was floating last season, has a mast and boom without major dents, sails that aren't shredded and standing rigging that's serviceable then someone could get out by April I'm sure. I'm also assuming that they don't have an inboard so no lump to repair or remove and compensate for the lack of ballast so no KTL style well project needed, just stick a reasonable outboard on the back. I guess the real costs involved would be if it was someone's first step up from a dinghy and they still have to find an outboard, VHF, new battery etc. These costs, as I well know, can far exceed the sale price of a 'bargain' bare boat, and that's before you even start to think of the mooring / storage expenses.

Martlet sailed so well that the 6hp outboard of 1966 vintage survived a typical season on no more than a couple of gallons fuel. Single 90Ah leisure battery lasted several weekends between charges at home. Two cabin lights, nav lights, autohelm, hand held VHF.

I have indeed been caught in that manner &, given the volumes of liquor consumed, I can understand the need for an overflow urinal. I must remember not too leave the hatch open if I moor on that side of the dock.

Mind you, it has also happened to SR in Caernarfon despite the strong floodlights - some people just have to expose their weakness. Fortunately welsh rain is a good flushing agent & a good salt water sluice when crossing the bar against a SW'ly 5 will soon disinfect all surfaces.

I may be wrong but it looks like Martlet has disappeared from ebay.....

As for the other two, people really are mad aren't they?

Knowing how rotten the internal plywood bearers were in mine (and it hasn't been in the water for six years), its a brave man that purchases that boat.

My guess is £1900. At that price it could represent good value to someone prepared to do some work but would take longer and cost more than they anticipated. Better to buy one where the work has already been done.

That is so wrong!
