How will you remember 2012 ?

I would rather forget 2012, spent nearly all March in hospital, then when fully recovered down came the rain. I know quite a few of our mates will be glad when the year is over!

Roll on 2013?

2011 was my "annus horribilis" the like of which I don't want to go through again. The one good thing that came out of it thanks to Brooms was that a deal was brokered to say a fond farewell to "Linton Lass", my boat of 19 years, and hello to "Isle of May". Delivery was taken late in the season and we looked forward to 2012 and actually having some time to enjoy the new boat.

As such, the first half of 2012 proved to be very frustrating with numerous trips (particularly those arranged with friends) cancelled due to river conditions. Even the first week of our holiday ended up with a cottage in the Cotswolds for a few days as red flags adorned the river. From then on however things seemed to turn a corner. The second week of the holiday (with probably some of the best weather all year) saw us heading for the salty stuff to give the boat a chance to stretch its legs and a very enjoyable few days in Chatham. It also gave me the chance to brush off my very rusty navigation skills as our GPS packed up the morning we left Teddington  . Since then we've made the most of our available time and used the boat as much as possible, and thoroughly enjoyed it; especially getting used to handling her as she is a very different animal to what I was used to.

I'll probably live to regret saying this :p but we're looking forward to next year and (assuming the elements don't get in the way) using the boat to the maximum both sides of Teddington Lock :D .

Some lovely poignant memories from everyone.
I think the key is actually not to stop just because of the 'season's end' but to continue all year round, we do. eg. this was us three boats ago -

Choice would be a fine thing - having been "locked in" by works in the last 4 years or more, weh nad nowhere to go.

Musn't complain, EA's got to do its maintenance sometime and before the money runs out.

This year's a bit better, 'cos just before Christmas we can go quite a long way upstream (a bit irritating as we planned to cruise more downstream this year - Old Windsor will be out all winter season - Hope the fix the 'draulics as well as the chamber)

Best weekend we could have wished for at this years Rewind Festival..our first one. Weather was unbelievable and the festival so much fun.

Not out as much as we had liked this year but still enjoyed it immensely when we did.

February - Admitted to Hospital. Wired up to at least one machine that goes ping.

April - Holiday on the Broads.

June - Bought my first Boat.

July/August/September/October - "Caution Strong Stream".

October - Bought my second boat.

Plenty of reasons to have bad memories this year, but its the good ones that will stay with me :-)

I have navigated the Thames from Chertsey to Oxford, and earlier in the year From Oxford to Lechlade, and had a lot of fun doing it. even if a little damp at times!

A wonderful month afloat. It wasn't all bad weather!
