Breaking the rules ?

Had a great time but I saw quite a few boats:

1. cutting inwater of the fort but race instructions said keep it to port.

2. Flying their ensign but still racing

3. having their anchor over the bows

4. having their outboard over the transom.

tut tut tut. Its only a bit of fun but rules are rules!!

There was a hell of a crash when formula one's mast came down....ouch.

Re: Anticlimax

Had a reasonable race - but the organisers made a serious [censored] mistake.

Due to some adminstrative error "I can't imagine how it happened" they temporarily assigned us to the wrong class and so thought we were XWL. They now admit they were wrong but "There is nothing we can do about it". At least they have had the decency to refund the entry fee.

Seems strange that they do that without notification or chance of redress.

It doesn't really matter - we know where we finished and that's the most important thing, just the record makes me look like a bit of a wally.

Real life stories?

It's easy to find the actual results, but they alone are not a great read - does anyone know a website that shows some good words'n'pics to describe the day's real stories?

If you go to the ybw home page there are links to both news and pictures from the event. The pics. get better as they go through the day, so don’t be put of by the murky start!

Re: XWL?? nm

XWL = Crossed wrong line.

The IRC fleet used the Northern Line, the ISC the Southern. We were racing in IRC, and so correctly crossed the Northern finish line - flying the correct blue fleet flag but as at that moment they thought we were ISC (purple) we were disqualified.

It's amusing to think that if we had actually made a mistake and crossed the wrong line we would have been ranked 28th out of the 640 in the ISC fleet!

Amazing!
I can understand why you must be p*ssed off!

I'm absolutely bewildered as to why they can't correct what seems to be a simple admin error. Given the fact that you slogged round the course for nigh on 9 hours to have all that effort count for nothing because some one thought you were in a different class is incredible.

Well, it's not really for nothing. We know where we finished and I've got the tankard, it's really just a matter of the printed results being wrong, I'd feel a right fool making a fuss given that we were in the bottom half of the field...

Re: Anticlimax

You mean you bribed them to do it - and all for one lousy pint?

The finishing time and the TCF are correct in the "final results" - you can do the calculation yourself....

What do you mean it doesn't matter? Get a slick lawyer onto it and this "irrevocable damage" to your self image could earn you millions under the Human Rights Act!

Oooo - do you think those lawyers who are advertising in YM would take it on a "no win no fee" basis?

Re: Anticlimax

Depends if you can convince them you have suffered mental hardship as a result of being derised by me, of course they might try to sue me as well in which case I will have to hunt you down and kill you like a dog in the street so maybe its not worth it, if they dont want to sue me though I can be an expert witness for a fee, lol.
See you there next year, although it looks good for August 17th as well. (if you dont get nervous and cross the wrong line or enter the wrong class that is, he he)

We had a great race - good humour and good manners from every other boat, except the "Official YBW Press Boat", a large Sunseeker or something, that came between us and a Pink fleet boat, and then slammed the throttles forward while 2 metres away, pushing out stern round and our bows into the wind. You'd have thought we'd be free of stinkpotters in the RTIR, but no - they'll get you anywhere!

Big Sorry! We live and learn, believe it or not that was the cheapest way of getting on the water to get pictures. Only problem was it was tooooooooooo big! Either we get wet laptops in a RIB, or annoy everyone in a Fairline. Back to the drawing board. We did try and keep the skipper away from the mayhem. We are back to our little RIB for the rest of the summer, so you can once again sail in peace.

Thanks for your patience.

Apologies - there would have been no intent on our part to trash you...as all of our available boats were elsewhere we chartered a coded Fairline Phantom 38 which came armed with a Yachtmaster Examiner skipper. At risk of sounding a bit 'not me guv' I had my head buried in a laptop all day filing news items and pictures of the event and I obviously wasn't looking out of the window at the right moment to see the incident you described.

Always a bit tight trying to move around 1600 yachts without offending but I'm genuinely sorry if it went wrong this year.
