How useful is the RYA online VHF Short Range Certificate (SRC) course?!

I know it is a hangover from my aviation R/T procedure but I would use, "XX Coastguard, good morning/evening (whatever) this is (yacht or whatever) XX"

The RYA accepts that the reference to aviation GMDSS was incorrect and the website now states: "a suitable aviation radio operator's certificate"

The £60 cost for the online course gives you test questions on computer in multiple choice format. I completed the course a few months ago and found the course and it's tests (including radio use simulation) very useful. I had no radio experience at all.

If you've seen the YouTube video how-tos that really is all you need to know.

Then listen to the VHF in a busy area, on a warm summer Sunday & ask yourself if the many users have actually listened to such guidance & then UNDERSTOOD how to use a VHF radio.

This is the thing. Most people who do a Dazed Kipper and buy a boat have never used a radio with a microphone. Those with a knowledge of RT procedure from elsewhere may not need it as badly, but my long experience on two wheels didn't exempt me from taking a test in a car either.
