How to stop the mainsheet twisting?

My 6:1 mainsheet blocks are a pair of triples with swivels top and bottom. They have not twisted in 15 years. I think the OP problem is due to the rope itself.

Absolutely agree. This is the way to prevent the twisting.

Never coiling the sheet worked for me - when stowing the sheet I just drape it in alternate directions across my hand. I've never had twist since.

If a rope has gone all twisty then just stream it over the stern for a few minutes. Just don't get it round the prop.

I use an Easymatic 6:1/3:1 mainsheet system on my 30 foot Arpege with an endless line.

Before I had an Easymatic 4:1/2:1 system with sseparate ends.

Neither system twists at all but the 4:1 system does not have enough power (for my main) when close hauled at higher windspeeds (just before reefing) it used to be hard to uncleat it. And without an endless sheet you always end up with one end of the sheet blocked against the cleats and yards and yards of tail in the cockpit on the other end.

Very happy with the Easymatic 6:1.

I used to round coil ropes on boats and lap coil climbing ropes. Habit I guess. I now always lap coil kernmantle ropes on the boat. And magically I don't get twists in the main sheet anymore. Worth a try.
