How to stop RW entering stern locker

Hi,

I own a Westerly Pageant and which lies on a mud mooring.

When the tide is out she sits high and leans to port side.

What I've noticed is that when heavy rain is experienced it floods the stern locker in the cockpit and I'm forever pumping it out.

Whilst there is a drainage channel around the locker seat/cover it clearly doesn't cope with the volume of rainwater.

I've since moved her onto another mooring for now and will resink my mooring as she's too high on the bank when the tides out so I'm hoping this may help but was wondering if anyone has had this problem and how to solve it.

I've added neoprene tape around the drainage channel to try and form a seal but it hasn't helped (tape is too thin I think)

Other than install an auto bilge pump in the locker I'm not sure what other options there are.

Thanks.

Thicker seals would help! Check the size of the gap by putting a lump of something like BluTack on the top of the inside of the drainage channel, then close the lid. You can measure the height of the compressed lump to see what the gap is. You'll need to repeat this at different places around the opening. Then buy neoprene tape which is larger than the gap, and glue it on with contact adhesive. Seals Direct have loads of suitable stuff - Plastic Edge Trim, Rubber Edging Trim, PVC Edge Trim UK | Seals Direct

I Westerly Centaur can have the same issue, it can be solved by installing a counter sunk deck drain in to the corner of cockpit seat, and routing the pipe to exit into the cockpit so that the rainwater exits via the cockpit drains as normal. Something like this Brass Countersunk Boat Deck Drain 3/8" would do the job.

A bit of messing about, but so is sponging the locker time it rains.

I wasn't sure of the spelling of 'sponging', so Googled it, you live and learn!
