You might find it worthwhile to check on correct exhaust design because this will give you a maximum angle that the boat can be at before the water trap lets its contents flow back into the engine. I dont know but my guess is that the exhaust should be capable of avoiding backflow at least at 20 degrees, maybe 30. Did your boatlift exceed that sort of angle?
