How to improve this helm position?

Just to finish this thread off, this is what I did. I got a local yard in Sardinia to reduce the height of the cushion by 25mm so my sightline is better and added armrests on the sides for extra support

I'm really pleased with the result although in the long run and if I keep this boat for an extended period I will get a couple of nice Stidd adjustable seats for the lower helm

For good measure I also had a go at improving the flybridge helm seat which, in the usual Italian way, is a flat bench. Initially I looked at going down the same route as Hurricane of this parish who bought some proprietary helm seats from an exhibitor at the Dusseldorf show but for some inexplicable reason, I had huge problems dealing with them myself and gave up in the end

This is the seat as it was

The same Sardinian yard made some suggestions which I went along with and this is what they came up with

Again I'm very pleased with the result and even better the cost of these two modifications was very reasonable

So I believed you until I read "the cost of these two modifications was very reasonable" !

Looks much better, and more importantly more comfortable.

We should hit Sardina about the 5th August if you are still there.

We plan to be there from 10th August to 2nd Sept so come down to Carloforte and see us or we can arrange to meet somewhere else!

Please don't "hit" Sardinia - we are all trying not to do that.

We will be here until the middle/end of Aug but by then we will be looking for an ideal weather window to run back to Menorca for a bit of anchoring before returning to our home port.
We would love to meet up.

We will be heading also to Menorca around the same time. We have flights booked form Mallorca on the 1 Sept , so will be planning to head in that direction circa 25th onwards weather dependant.

We will be pootling about half way or less and then accelerate once we are in safe range.

Maybe we can cross together. We are in a Squadron 65.

Really nice job Mike, both upper and lower helm seats. I am mulling over what to do, if anything, with he helm seat on our Azi 39. It does the job, but I would preferably like to sit a little higher, and accommodate my wife and I too. We are having the interior upholstery changed, Quayside Leisure are doing the job. We got bumped in the queue by a new Pearl 75 :(. What does Kelly Hoppen know about interiors that my wife doesn't?

If I was in your shoes, I'd be telling the SWMBO that Kelly Hoppen is a rank amateur in comparison. That should rack up a few brownie points;)

well done on the seats Mike, your start to enjoy the pleasure of rebuilding the boat :)

did you have a close look at the boat on your port side in the older pics ?
as far as I can see from these pics, she's only slightly younger than Bleu Angel,
and has probably very much the same internal layout

Yes I remember her at the time but these pics were taken in Marina Villasimius on the SE tip of Sardinia and we were only in there for 1 night so I didn't have time to take a proper look. She does look like a fine boat in good condition

How's life in Montenegro? Is Bleu Angel fully operational now and everything OK with the rebuilt engine?

thanks for asking,
Live in Montenegro is still great, and it is terribly hot here ! same for south Croatia,
they have just finished the extension of the main Jetty nr 1, completely with palm threes and flowers and all that !

we've just finished our first week with guests (my mum and her friends) and have been running the engines over 20 hours now without a problem,
we had a few small issues with the old engine, when we first arrived on the boat , 1,5 week ago, but that was cured immediately by Ilko.
At the moment they are repairing the tender crane, one bearing is bust due to age and corrosion.

I'll update the engine thread with more details when I find the time.
very busy here so unfortunately very little time left to spend on the forum, despite the interesting postings from mates in Sardinia and in Finland :)
