I would say that seeing a pedestrian crossing a busy road at right angles is a high possibility.

If you see him flaking rather than folding things then would be a dead cert. :)

Others ?

Complains that satnavs have made driving too easy so attempts to navigate from Preston to Norwich using only a whirly depth sounder..

In the street, Ocean style sailing jackets (normally red) with big cordura patches , reflective strips and high collars that stand up behind the neck. When raining, the use of a dayglo yellow hood. Often worn over office clothing

At Gunwharf Quays we are the ones who leave our spouses to go round the shops whilst we stand on the quayside looking wistfully at the yachts heading out of Portsmouth Harbour, or if there aren't any, at the IoW Ferry or failing that the Gosport Ferry, wondering what we did to be where we are rather than where they are.

A bulge in the crotch area of their trousers that would cause embarrassment for anyone else, but for a sailor it just shows he has a cork ball floating key fob.

Round these parts Henri Lloyd jackets are especially popular. Not because of sailors though - they are the label of choice for the local chavs and chavettes. Wearing Henri Lloyd in a pub around here is more likely to result in not getting served than recognised as a sailor.

Say PORT TO PORT on passing. After a close quarters head on collision scenario where both civvy vessels make the same decisions of going left or right to the point of almost dancing: guilty sorry!
