On the old Forum threads seemed to appear in the order in which they were started with the newest first. With this forum - or at least with the way I have it set up - old threads seem to appear again at the top of the list when someone adds a new post.

Does anyone know if this can be changed through settings in any way.

I didn't seem to migrate from the old forum which I had belonged to for 4 years:( so set myself up again on this version with the name of my boat, hence I appear as a new user!

Regards
Andrew

Scroll down to the bottom of the list of threads and you'll find a "Display Options" box. You can change the order there but it always seems to revert to the default value of "Last Post Time".

The forum default date order is the one that the majority of people prefer!

IIRC the old forum could be set to your personal preference but the new one always defaults to the ... default. Its going to be pain for you if you really must read threads in order of first post.

Your user ID may have reverted to an older ID. Quite a few people have had to get Dan to correct their ID.

I would prefer the old default where the posts appeared in order of posting. Anything else is just a blooming nuisance, in my opinion.

Any chance we could have a vote and see if the majority prefer the old order?

No need for a vote, one of the planned upgrades is so you can permanently change your preference in the User CP (like in the old forum) so you can simply choose which way you display

In order of first post?
Doesn't that make it difficult to spot new posts added to old threads. As it is now all threads with new posts come to the top of the pile where you can easily see them.

Something I'm missing?

It's a PAIN IN THE ARSE and the sooner Dan The Man sorts it out, the better

Very puzzled now. As far as I am concerned it has been sorted out.

When the new forum first went live threads appeared in order of first post. (Thread start time is what it is actually called) They could be re-ordered to your choice of several alternatives but always defaulted to the above (unlike the old forum where you could permanently set your choice)

Following complaints the default was altered to descending from last post time.

I am absolutely certain, from what has been said in the past, that the current default is what the majority prefer.
I cant see how the forum is usable in any other order.

I preffer to have it in thread start time order (as per the old forum default), and thus constantly have to change the setting every time I go into a forum. I started a thread on this subject some weeks ago in the feedbacl / problems forum and it had a lot of itnerest.

It seems to me there is strong feeling for both ways so being able to set your onw default seems the only real solution; really hope that is coming soon.

Vic,
I think the answer is that those who use the Forum less regularly (maybe once every 2/3 days) would prefer to see new threads at the top of the list. I certainly do. Many of us have not got the time to check every response to every post, or even every response to our favourite posts. Seeing the latest response at the top of the list is therefore less important to us. This does not make us any less enthusiastic about the Forum which I find both interesting and very helpful.
Hope this explanation sheds some light on why there are 2 opposing points of view here - both valid.

Thats what I get, I like it.
Erm at risk of being lambasted, has everyone noticed the "View First Unread " link near the top? Very usefull

Dave.

The old forum used to take you straight to the last post you had read on a particular thread. I find it a bit of a nuisance to have to scroll down the thread, especially on a long one, to get at the unread posts.

Am I missing something obvious?
