How to buy a boat?

hi all, just joined and am looking for help. i am part of a small syndicate trying to purchase a motorsailer through a broker. Can anyone suggest what is reasonable as an opening bid. The boat is almost 60K. I was going to suggest a 10% reduction in the price or is this being stupid, I don't know the state of the market today, any advice would be a big help,Thanks

Without knowing much else a 10% reduced offer doesn't seem unreasonable and will almost be expected. Some time boats will go for a lot less than asking price but brokers are just working on behalf of clients. A lot depends on the particular boat. Has it been for sale for a while? How does it compare with other similar boats? How keen is the owner to sell.

Thanks for your replies, great, its been on the market for 3 or 4 months and had an early reduction of two grand. its hard to get a comparison with other boats for sale, some older boats are more expensive but have been re engined, this still has 1980's Volvo Penta.

You gota look at what else is on the market, if its good value to you, buy it and move on, life is too short.
I missed a good mobo by being too cautious at first.

Right, that was my initial thought too, just wondered if I was maybe being too ridiculous at that price but I think I will take your advice , start there and see how it goes, thank you
