A bit of advice needed please, we have friends that have moved to the UK from Greece (Kefalonia) they now need to send their dog to the uk, the dog is being looked after by friends. Does anyone have any ideas as to the best/cheapest way to do this? the dog is a similar size to a Lab, but skinny. they need to organise pick up and drop off (unaccompanied) friends in Kef will put dog onto transport, uk people will pick it up. Odd request i know, but others may have done similar.

Here in Spain there are vans that carrry pets to and from the UK, proper businesses. Maybe you can find something similar in Greece?

My daughter took her dog back to & from Cyprus, the airline took the dog in a specified container in the hold. If I recall correctly it was with BA. Obviously all the vaccinations , pet passport etc must be up to date. On the way back they had to get another flight as they were having issues on the original flight with hold pressure.

Smuggle - which could end up with a large quarantine bill and even termination. or vet check pooch. Get him chipped.

There are only a few places to legally bring in animals; Dover, Heathrow, Gatwick for example.

There are actually quite a lot, although by air you'll obviously be constrained also by a particular airline's scheduled destinations.
By sea, about a dozen UK ports on the south and east coasts are approved to deal with pet arrivals. So, too, is the Chunnel.

They are following a lead on a company called PAWS, they bring dogs back from the Peleponese to the uk in a van, cost is around £300, it sounds promising.
thanks for the replies.

We saw a van from this company parked up at the Eurotunnel stop in uk while waiting for the slot for our trip . They were walking the dogs and seemed quite caring based on our observations. Anyway we got talking to them as we thought they might be helpful to taxi a dog through the tunnel in some fashion. I recall they were delivering their charges to Spain so quite a long trip but they seemed to be on what was a regular doggy run . Never used them but did note them down for future reference .

If you don't succeed with PAWS, pm me. I've an old friend who adopted a stray pooch whilst on holiday in Halkidiki. There was a local charity there who had a contract with a pet transport service running to UK. The local charity organised all the microchipping, vaccinations etc and then arranged for the company to move the pooch to UK. IIRC it was a door to door service which delivered the pooch to her home address. Kept her updated on progress during the trip and seemed to be generally nice folks.

Thanks for that duncan, we now have the number for the van man who does deliveries from Kefalonia to uk (and pets) this would suit them better, we have passed his details on, so hopefully they can sort something out.
