How original is your older boat?

I don't like to think of my boat as 'old', but since next year will be our HR's 20th we are getting there. This thread has reminded me that we have actually replaced a number of things, as well as customised her to some extent.

Replacements include:
2 replacement sails, the originals were rubbish
Topping lift, jib sheets and mainsheet - the other running rigging is original
One crazed window, some others Lewmar windows also need attention
Gas pipery
2 cockpit locker latches
Bottom stripped and re-epoxied etc
Inflatable dinghy, because it was starting to leave black marks
Carpets throughout
Radar and plotter - old one was B&W
Battery charger x2
Immersion heater and accumulator tank (x3)
PRV for water system
Sprayhood and cockpit tent

Still original:
Basic instruments
Standing rigging - due for change soonish
Engine c 3000hr. Should be good for another 20yrs
Teak deck - no remedial treatment needed yet. Many years left too
Stanchions and other deck gear

I bought my current boat (Westerly Discus) at the end of March 2016. She'd had a few things done in 2013, including a new cooker and a new single line headsail furler. Since then ;

2 saloon portlights
Saloon hatch blind/sun screen.
Retractable stainless bow sprit.
Shower pump.
Anchor windlass remotes.
A lot of rewiring, including some additional fuses.
Revised angle guard at helm, to take new Navpod.
Garmin EchoMAP plus 95SV plotter at helm.
Garmin VHF handset at helm.

All transom through hulls replaced with polished stainless.

Plus a host of other, more minor, items..... new shiny sink drains, replacing dull screws with shiny stainless, repairing chips and scratches etc etc etc.

This thought came to me when I was sailing on Monday. What is still original on my 38 year old Fulmar?

The hull, deck, keel, pulpit and pushpit, anchor (not sure about the chain), interior woodwork, Blakes toilet, water and fuel tanks, holding tank (maybe fitted shortly after launching), bilge pump, electrical wiring and switch panel are original. The original cooker is about to be replaced and the woodwork is due to be stripped and relaquered. The genoa furling gear is old and was probably fitted over 25 years ago.

To my knowledge this is everything that has been replaced, upgraded or added with dates where known.
...?
Minor cosmetic updates I'd say then.

Mine is on it's fifth engine, all the deck has been replaced. Cabin tops and cockpit rebuilt. New hatches made. Shear strakes replaced twice. All bunks and much of the cabin furniture rebuilt. Cabin sole replaced. It's on its third heads. Third standing rigging. Fourth suit of sails. Fifth stove. Some planking has been renewed after an encounter with a rock (not under my ownership), and several ribs have been doubled. Still has the original anchor and chain. Original(ish) wooden mast. it has been dismantled and rebuilt twice. Original fuel and water tanks.

About to consider another go at the decks - a leak above the skipper's bunk is making it feel more urgent.

But your Fulmar is a fine vessel and well worth it. I do ask myself about mine..

If he or any of us keep a cost list I suspect that we wouldn't be boating !

Yep!

Id rather point to the original than than the replacement. 100% original planks, mast, deck and err... thinking ...
but to me she is still original when the hull is still the same planks and the sail plan matches the designers drawings.

We’ve had our Sadler for about 13 of its 24 years. We have renewed/uprated/refurbished:

Hull epoxy, soon after purchase as the antifouling needed blasting.
One genoa (main renewed just before purchase).
Standing rigging and guardwires; main halyard, topping lift and kicker.
DSC-VHF radio; MOB gear, including danbuoy and light.
2 x instrument display elements (failing contrast) and wind unit bearings/cups/vane.
Deck flood (corrosion) and steaming light unit.
Shore power with consumer unit.
Flexible gas pipes (shortly for the second time) and regulator (once).
Fuel hose and breather (uprated pipe material).
Exhaust elbow (twice – most recently with Beta’s new Al type instead of SS).
Heads pipework after purchase; new pump; outlet pipe again recently with new seacock.
Saloon upholstery, splitting seats and seatbacks for easier access; carpet.
Headlining throughout; new upholstered chainplate covers for easier access.
Stainless steel water tank instead of flexible, with new deck filler cap (corrosion).
Galley sink (a larger one) and cold water plumbing and taps, as part of full plumbing upgrade.
Battery cables, electrical switch panels and wiring, as part of upgrade for greater demand.

I am just starting on window sealing – one out, one to do and the others later. The sprayhood was renewed just before purchase, and our canvas man keeps saying ‘It’s fine for another year’.

We have added:

Single line reefing.
Sealing and cam locks for cockpit floor.
Saloon table – previous owner had not had one fitted - and double doors to forepeak.
Radar reflector (passive); hand-held VHF.
Inflatable dinghy and two inflatable kayaks.
Electric bilge pump (none originally; the first I added has just failed and been replaced).
Battery charger; engine battery in new box to double house bank; galvanic isolator.
Extra reading lights, 12V sockets, radio/CD player, RAM laptop mount at chart table.
Coolbox refrigeration.
Water pump, gauge, calorifier, accumulator and hot water pipework.
Locker restraining bars/net and galley bum strap.
