How necessary is vaseline when servicing jabsco toilet ? Can i use grease instead?

I'm mid servcing toilet
Manual says to use vaseline on certain parts
I don't have any on board
Is this essential ?
And can I use white grease as an alternative ?

Use what the manufacturer specifies, other products could rot the seals. Vaseline is cheap and not difficult to find.

It's difficult to find on my boat!
But I can go and get some from Lochgilphead
Just wondered if an alternative

I use silicone grease on the pump shaft, not sure what effect white grease would have on the seal.

I thought ‘Christ, it must be a tight fit in his heads’. Then I thought it was probably worth doing as they suggest, and running into a chemist shop for a pot, and another to leave on board.

I actually got some vaseline from a local resident.
They resisted the temptation to make any jokes which I thought was very impressive.

Like mine on the battery terminal thread ..

There used to be a communal tub, catering size, in the gents changing rooms at HISC. The canoe sailors needed it for the chafe caused by their sliding seats.
