How much should reupholstering flybridge and cockpit cushions cost?

On a 63ft boat in the south of France. Not including the foam because that will be re-used. Either in standard white vinyl or Silvertex

I ask this because its a long time since I have had this done on a boat and judging by the quote I've received I've definitely lost touch with what it costs

We are entering the reupholster era .
No decisions yet just starting to take an interest - .
I’ve used that guy with the van parked oppersite you ? - ( he has a workshop in town too btw ) to repair a bow cushion on the previous SS boat .
Filo and sons ?
Not cheap

getting loads done on Silver Echo just now by Henri Trehard - further round the port towards le Transat - he only speaks French-- labour only I am supplying the plastic backed Sunbrella I want 770 euro for the upper table u shape seating--980 for the cover for that seating. Used le Filo for lots on other boat is v good but think this Henri guy cheaper.

A lot depends on the complexity of shape and patterns. I hunted around and the recommended artisans were quoting me upwards £1k for a single helm, 1.5k for a double bench but 2k for a U dinette for 5 seats. Labour and material with warranty. In the end it cost ~5k to do the lower and upper cockpit and this was on a traditional layout for a 34 ft sports boat. Admittedly mine has some compound curves that all complained looked more like an exercise on what could be achieved rather than ergonomics and functionality. Most said if I changed the foam to something more pragmatic the costs would decrease substantially (fewer patterns I suppose). So as a very rough guide, seating for 8 = ~5k

edit:

found some photos of the seats before reupholstering

Helm single. Quotes between 1.2k and 3k (he was way ahead of the pack on that one)

Double bench 1.5k to 3k(same suspect again)

U dinette for 5 ~2k across the board (corner pieces shown)

Mmm, seems I've definitely lost touch then judging by some of the figures already flying around on here! I'm being quoted €10500 for flybridge cushions (large sunbed, double helm seat + dinette) + cockpit cushions (2no) in Silvertex using existing foam. Thats not from Le Filo but another supplier. Good point about supplying the material from UK

Sounds about right Deleted User. I was dismayed too. I could get a classic car seating recovered at a sizeable fraction of what I paid for the boat. But then again much depends on the patterns required. Mine had a lot of excess stitching and patterns to get the material to form the required shapes.

Blimey where's the major cost in these prices? Material or labour?

using a "marine" service, prices can go everywhere

transport is so cheap now a day's,
I had all reupholstry, cushions and curtains done locally in Belgium,
(except saloon seats were done in Fiumicino many years ago)

I had the Belgium guy on the boat on a few occasions:
- making pattern and frame for the flybridge cover
- reupholstering all ceiling panels in saloon and cabins

don't remember the prices

Sunbeds for our foredeck for everything and fitting was €1850 haggled down to €1700. Tofani in Beaulieu did the work and it is excellent. Let me know if you want the contact details.

It doesn't really help the discussion regarding SOF, but just for comparison purposes I paid €1700 in Monopoli 3-4 years ago. I changed all external fabric and foam (sunbed on the bow, flybridge seating, cockpit settee) as well as 6 foldable chairs for the cockpit... And still happy with the stuff.

re labour. Bare in mind that to get the patterns they need to unpick the existing material to get patterns from if shapes etc warrant it.

Hmmm. I had my T40 reupholstered by Tockfield in Derbyshire. Silvertex in the cockpit plus the fore and aft sunpads done in Sunbrella for about £2500+vat, all using existing foam. However I did do the removal and refit myself, and I also covered the transport to/from the factory. It helped that they were the OE supplier to Fairline so already had all the patterns in their CNC library.

I could have bought the skins direct from Formula for the same price I paid a local artisan. Formula couldn't colour match though. They would be all white. Were yours a complex design / shape though, out of interest. The chap that did mine said it took a day just to fit his created skin to the helm seat alone as it's a single piece with no infill. The deck sunpad on mine was a pittance. Couple hundred, but then that was for all intents and purposes a flat bag.

Reasonably complicated I suppose. On the helm seat - I just removed the entire seat assembly and took it to them. I took all the old upholstery to them as well - so when I was referring to fitting I was talking about the fixed backrests etc. In total there are five seat cushions, five backrest panels, two fixed wall panels and the helm seat which has a separate flip-up bolster. The sunpads are two cushions each, so four in total.

I had a look at the upholstery here on this example. http://www.boats.co.uk/boats-for-sale/fairline-targa-40-982

It looks good but isn't as complex in shape = less labour intensive. Given as I mentioned if I had mine re-foamed to a more pragmatic shape I could effectively halve costs then you are in the same ballpark. I did say much depends on the complexity of the pattern and shape = the amount of pattern pieces and stitching required

That's a good price I reckon.
