I am looking at buying my next boat which is fitted with twin KAMD43P's. It is due a service and this is being 'included' in the sale. Alternatively I could buy the boat without the service for a price reduction. So what's the best thing for me to do?

I am not after an estimate or a quotation, but actual figures. Please assume that nothing extraordinary needs fixing, no tappets to be adjusted, the engines have done under 150 hours in 6 years.

Can anybody advise me on what they actually spent on an annual service for a couple of KAMD43P's?

Many thanks.

So much depends on where you get your engines serviced. I think for 43's, somewhere around £1200/1500 for the pair can be expected from a Volvo Penta Dealer.

Just be sure that they carry out a FULL service as part of the sale "deal" Most will, I suggest, only change oil and filters.

And make sure the impellors are changed too!

Why not contact your local VP outley and ask the price of a FULL service inc tappets etc. Get this off the price of the boat and get it done after purchase. That way you know it has been done properly.

I would go even further and get the full VP price off the boat and then do the work myself. Not only do I know it has really been done properly, but I would have saved a whole wad of cash too.

Many thanks for your replies.

I now have an answer from my local dealer in Wales. For those who are wondering a FULL service inc tappets has been quoted at £1462 inc VAT.

Crikey prices must have shot up. We used to have a single KAMD43 shaft drive up untill 18 months ago. I cant find the individual receipts but have a statement from the VP dealer which suggests it cost around £300 to £350 each time. That is apart from when we needed a new head gasket and that was £1200 I was told some of this type are prone to head gasket problems on the forward stb corner of the head.

Depending on where the boat is and I dont want to quote on the live forum but if you send me a pm I will give you a quote, and you can be assured it will be done properly for a lot less than you have been advised.
