How much for a new set of sails?
I know this is a bit like ‘how long is a piece of string’ but given the scant details below
I’m just after a rough ball park figure.
It’s a 20 year old bilge keeler 23’ long, she still has her original sails, she is slow and heavy for her size. Certainly not a performance boat.
I do not have the measurements to hand and will not be able to get at them for several weeks. (I’m stuck on a ship) All of the sail makers I’ve tried via the internet want the measurements before they’ll give me a price, that’s a fair enough position.
She is a Matador, but that’s probably not much help as none of the sail makers have had it in their databases.
Common well known boats that I imagine would be around the same price for sails are-
Hurley 23 or halcyon 23 that sort of thing.
The sails she has now are Furling headsail and a mainsail that has a bolt rope that slides up a groove in the mast and furls by wrapping round the boom.
I’d be wanting to replace them like for like and they’d just be used for general cruising about and pottering.
ANY idea as to what I’d expect to pay for such beasts would be welcome. I have never bought a sail of ant type and don’t know what to expect.
Hope that’s enough info for someone to make a stab at it.
Cheers
Colin
