How much does your hobby cost?

Mooring - Free at home or if I venture to local Yacht club ... fiver a night all incl. (I use it sparingly).
Insurance at 50 Euros a year.

Crane to lift in / out at 25 quid a throw.

Winter storage is free at home.

So overall costs for a 25ft Motor Sailer is about 150 quid a year .... even if I 'lux-out' I'm seeing change from 200 quid ...

[edit] .... I forgot to say that it actually covers 4 boats .... 2 x 4m mobos, 1 x 5.5m sailboat and the 25ft MS ... [/edit]

England v. France comparisons

Every time anyone brings up the subject of cost the usual voices prattle on about 'rip-off Britain'. Fortunately there are some sensible voices that point out just how expensive it is in the S Of France etc and try and point out proper comparisons.

The real villain of the piece is not MDL, Premier or Dean and R, it is the planners. All marina companies have land and plans for new space that they are not allowed to develop. In the UK boating is a posh pastime and, despite the Olympic successes, will never get general approval until people lean on their politicians. Excert some serious pressure and who knows, even the RYA might wake up. There is room for 1,000+ more berths in Pompey if HMHM woke up, Soton water 3 times this, there's space everywhere. Think back to the cock up of the referendum in Swanage (which they all regret now).

Make planners allow a few more facilities and the moaners will have to find another subject, which they will. Even Jonjo will have to approve of the banks lending on this!
