Two mannequins called Sid and Alma dressed as lifeboat crew complete with dry suits, lifejackets, helmets and collecting buckets have, over the years, collected about £15,000 a year to help support Sidmouth’s independent (not RNLI) lifeboat.
Now some mean spirited worm, believed to be a Sidmouth resident, has complained to the council that they are breaking some local by law which says that charities are only allowed to collect one day a year and need a licence to do so.
Sidmouth Town Council is seeking exemption from the by law from E Devon District Council.
See www.sidmouthlifeboat.org.uk where you can see a "contact us" addy to lend your support. Over 2000 signatures have been collected for the Save the Dummies campaign.

Sounds like somebody hasn't got a life at all. Hope they are never in need of the RNLI

The nastier side of me hopes they are in need of rescuing one day. Mean spirited and useless - who would miss em /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

There are those who enjoy destroying things and create little, who add nothing to their time on this planet except to become a focus for what decent folk try to avoid becoming.

Then there are those who toil without seeking reward to better themselves and their community and whose efforts go largely unsung; decent folk hope to be like them but mostly,I think, stand in awe at such achievements knowing that they couldn't measure up(myself included).

We mustn't let the low life and non-achievers, whatever their perception of their own righteousness, undermine what most of us admire.

Just let's hope that such people are aware of what insignificant little lives they lead and how little they will be missed when they've gone!

Its not like there pressurising or pestering anyone to give ?

In fairness to the local council they are trying to find a way round it.If they do insist on them (Sid and Alma)retiring the lifeboat crew should put them up as candidates in the next local elections /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
