Two mannequins called Sid and Alma dressed as lifeboat crew complete with dry suits, lifejackets, helmets and collecting buckets have, over the years, collected about £15,000 a year to help support Sidmouth’s independent (not RNLI) lifeboat.
Now some mean spirited worm, believed to be a Sidmouth resident, has complained to the council that they are breaking some local by law which says that charities are only allowed to collect one day a year and need a licence to do so.
Sidmouth Town Council is seeking exemption from the by law from E Devon District Council.
