for me it was:

- 4 weeks holliday in Croatia
- 1 week holliday in SOF
- 3 weekends on the Northsea
- 4 weekends in Holland zeeland
- 4 daytrips here on a local channel

140 engine hrs all together,

not bad for a season that only started in June (delivery of the boat) and bad weather/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I wonder howmuch time you all spend on the boat, especially if you still have a job to do /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Very littel this year, though I have had some good long runs. the first three days of the Swedish trip were good - even if the whole purpose of the trip quickly fell apart.

had a couple of good days around the solent as well but most of my best boating has been on friends boats - which has been greatly appreciated.

This year has cemented my realisation that its not the boat you own or the places you go that are important, its the people you spend the time with that count.

2008 was not a great year for me, but despite the doom and gloom I am really hopeful that 2009 will be better. There are still some hangovers to deal with but with a bit of an outlook realignment I should get a bit more enjoyment back from the sport I love.

Yes not so good for us either. A week in April, terrible weather, hurt my back. I had to leave the boat at Gosport for a week, so lost half of my free nights.

Boat wouldn't plane all year. Had a week at displacement speed in July that was quite nice. Then a couple of weeks in August, but that was broken by trips we had to make back home and again the weather was terrible.

Col has been a hero and done a lot of diagnostic work, but its taken an age to get good weather to check each stage. Finally ended up with new turbo's but again the only weekends we could have tested them we had other commitments, so still don't know if its sorted.

All in all a rotten year for boating, but am hoping 2009 will be better.

We moved in July so now its just out of the marina around the corner and we are at sea. The run down from Chi just got too much in the end. Too long and too many raggies. No disrespect to any raggies reading this but its actually hard work in my mobo following at 5 - 6 kts, I need about 7 kts to make it easy to steer, then you have to watch for wash.

I believe you are just around the corner from us, how about a beer somewhere nearby next year, maybe the the Ferry Boat Inn? Let see if we can persuade Col over as well and isn't Roger R nearby?

Cheers

D

Would love to join you, /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Think I had quite a good year....
Cant rememeber every trip...

Mostly from Lowestoft
A couple to Bradwell
Shotley...three or four times
Ipswich
Marshalling for the Round Britain Power Boat
Lowestoft Air Show
Chatham

Oostend on a raggie in quite unusual conditions
And several other raggie trips in mixed weather.

All in all I have had a quite good year....
Not been on any "foreign" journeys in my boat but hope to this coming season

Yep, we're only round the harbour from you. We had a great year on the boat, loads of trips out and a channel crossing in August. The weather was generally naf but as we were there every week, we made the most of the better days.

We brought Houston back from Weymouth last January, can you believe. Took a bit of getting used to but had some help from Julie when it mattered. I have a very tight berth but seem to manage it better now. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The boat has been great, had a few teething problems but JD Yachts stood by it when it mattered most. Houston goes brill' and I've been very pleased with her, even in the rougher weather. Only managed about 80 hours though. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We have also been lucky as Jez mentioned to have had some great company on trips this year starting when on the collection run and it certainly makes such a difference if you can join up with like minded pi$$ artists. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The classy photos on the other thread were taken in July/Aug on a day trip to Sandown & Shanklin with Jason. We had four boats across the channel in 2 pairs. A couple of trips to Beaulie and Yarmouth qnd the Folly with 2 brace of Squadrons and T40s' and not to mention seven boats in Yarmouth for the Xmas carols.

The weather is a great bonus but we certainly made the best of it this year, even though it was cold and drafty, we still had good fun.

Don't for get the invasion of the Pirates at East Head in June for Derek's (djefabs) birthday too. We had close to 20 boats and close to 50 pirates on the beach... Brilliant! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

If 2009 is half as good as '08 on the boat we'll be darn right happy! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

'This year has cemented my realisation that its not the boat you own or the places you go that are important, its the people you spend the time with that count.'

Could not agree more Jez. Had a great year and am looking forward to 2009

Keep the faith /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Don't know about how many times, but clocked 250 engine hours which I consider light use... year before that I clocked up 380

A great weekend which I remember well /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I've had a pretty good year on the boat - I was lucky with the weather when I had the time I think, or maybe I was determined to get out even if the weather wasn't perfect.

Picked her up in Palma and had a day cruise to Andraitx and back to get a feel for her. Then to Port Leucate, via Barcelona and Palamos to get her to the truck back to UK.

From March through to end of September got out on the water 19 times for day trips and weekends, and had two week holiday cruise Poole to Falmouth for regatta week and back via Torquay and Plymouth in August - despite absolute [--word removed--] weather.

Since the end of September I've only managed two trips out on the water (and 4 trips down to check engines/warps/bilges fenders etc) so have clocked up about 130 hours this year - not bad really considering the year hasn't been one of any great vintage.

Let's all hope for a better boating year in 2009; I'll drink to that. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I made up a calender for 2009, mainly boaty photos, and when looking through it yesterday, it reminded me that while 2008 might have seemed a naff season, in fact we had some fantastic times; people, places, things that without a boat we could never have done.
I couldnt help but think how lucky we are to be able to do this. Some really good memories.

Having the boat at back of house has made a big difference. The river is wide, deep and I have about 30 - 40km's I can play in...... depending which boat. I can also make it to sea and play in serious waters.
So to try and calculate how many hours ? not easy ! Probably average 2 evenings a week, average 1 day at weekend ... so and 2 seaward trips of 2 - 4 days.

Season from Mid May to Mid October 'ish.

Here's a reminder. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Twas a cracking day! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Awful year - only about 50 hrs total, due mainly to changed circumstances up country.
1 weekend in Falmouth plus 2 other nights out closer to home, plus a number of day trips or a quick blast (wave testing /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif) and back home again..
If situation no better in 2009, boat may have to go /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

PS Not counting Avon boating in this, but only went on the river about 10 times all year. Haven't swept all the silt off the landing stage from various floods yet.

Well, apart from the Round Britain trip which was 8 weeks and 140 hrs, I have to say almost none /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif .

The weather hasn't helped of course but it conbined with a few days of sickness and a busy year for business.

It really doesn't look like getting much better so we have decided to sell up and possibly hire a boat for the few days we are able to go out and the weather is fine.

Pity really because we moved to Cornwall from Harlow partly for the boating. In 3 years I have had 3 boats (Cap Camarat 625, Sun Odessey 32.2 and a Merry Fisher 625) and none of them really inspired us to get out on the days when we were able to. Perhaps owning a boat isn't really for us. I think a year of two without one will tell us once and for all.

So the boat is up for sale but in this economic climate I may have it for a little while yet.

But it's not quite finnished yet. Off to the boat tomorrow for a week or two. First day or two is going to be fitting the new fly bridge seats and marking the new dinghy for davit patches.

A few trips round the west country till May. Then the hike in crap weather, Plymouth to Conwy. A forumite meet up that ended in carnage. Yes the weathers been crap, it's just meant we've had to go some where different.

Less than last year. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
We don't do much day tripping type boating but do bigger trips. Only three proper trips and a few quick blasts to give the engines and systems a thrash.

2 weeks on our own in Normandy (inc few days with T&T)
2 weeks with MBM CI's & Brittany
2 weeks with MBM Holland

The boat does get used other times though. My son goes down and drinks the fridge out of beer /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hardly ever had a day trip, we always go some where, even if it's just a few hundred yards out the marina and stop the night in the river. But mostly we wont see the marina again, for a week or three..
