How many sail without a tender ?

It always seems to me that folks who only sail from marina to marina miss out on so much of the yachting experience. Many marinas are so similiar, almost clones, but anchoring in a remote location and going ashore is usually memorable.

Its finally opened up after a terrible Covid situation. At start of Covid - they had a Basketball Tournament and it was open for anyone to travel there to spectate. Covid struck and a large part of population were affected ....

I have bee waiting to sail there again .. I love the old world feel and the cafes in the main street ....
Shame. We went to the bishop’s castle while we were there. Had pig’s ears with my beer if I remember. C8955BAB-3118-4DBA-B4A4-043D6A4D3301.jpeg

The awkwardness of the Avon on foredeck even got me looking at the cheapo supermarket dinghys as a stopgap.

When I had my boat at Hill Head SC - guy there had one and he ignored the giggles and comments from others and used to paddle out to his boat ... unmoor and go sailing. Back on mooring - paddle his cheapo 'toy' dinghy back and smile as he packed it up into back of car ...

I accept that such dinghy is only really useful in closed safe waters and not for crossing large harbour etc.

I used a 2.6m Aldi PVC inflatable for ten years. It cost £40 and I finally binned it last year when it developed one too many leaks. It's plus points were compactness and transportability which made it good for my 22 ft boat. It's negatives were it's frailty in other than very sheltered waters and lack of a seat. It had a number of air chambers with proper valves so you were unlikely to sink completely. To be honest I was always a wee bit nervous using it, but it served me well. It could 'flip' in a breeze under tow and I never quite worked out a foolproof towing regime, but a bridle worked as well as anything.

The Castle as you know overlooks the Marina ... and is a 5min walk. They hold all sorts of Concerts there from Opera through to Drama / Rock etc.
The approach to Marina / Harbour is via a long dredged cut .. get outside of it and you will be there a long time !! No tides ..
