The lost of red will add an average 4% to 10% on annual costs

Analysis

40% of boats are under 100 hours a year.easy calculation as 100 boats replied

using the under 30 hours and under 50 hours and adding to get averages

0-30 hours = 15hours x10 boats
30-40hours=40hours x 12 boats
50-100hours=75hoursx40 boats

Average hours per year is 58

58 x 10 knots =580 nm
divided by 1.5 mpg x 4.54 L = 1752 L per year

todays cost 50ppl = £876

nov 2008 cost = £2102

extra cost £ 1226

Thats less than 10% of boating costs on the south coast ignoring furnace costs and could be less than 4% when including finance costs (based on £100k boat)

I have used the solent area costs as there are far more boats in this area than the rest of the country put together.

Further proof that boat prices will not plummet is the fact that 3 years ago fuel was half price and prices may well be down but not collapsed .

I thank everyone for their replies, it has made me feel much happier about my investment (my boat), the thought of loosing 20% of value or more was a concern.

I am concerned and disappointed that the extra cost of fuel for me and others will be significant but at least the market should be able to absorb the impact.
A few leaving will be replaced by others and values will be maintained more or less the same.
