The last day can be right up there too!Congratulations. The first day of boat ownership is one of the best. So you have become a PBO - poor bloody owner. Tell all, what did you buy.
I'm at an age when I can see that day in my future. There may be some relief that the burden has gone, especially if she goes to someone who will appreciate her as we do, but I'm pretty sure it'll be a sad day, not a happy oneThe last day can be right up there too!
I believe your beautiful Standfast 36 will be on the market shortly. Must be a wrench for you.1. Etap 38i (Yanita): 2001-2006
2. Kalik 44 (Guapa): 2006-2020
3. Standfast 36 (Koeketiene): 2020-...

Cost of ownership is much easier to stomach when you live aboard.
You do need to spend a bit more on the boat because of wear and tear, but you can basically delete the cost of berthing entirely because you can spend all your time at anchor. And then you divide the cost by 365.
Finally, you can rent out your house.
My last boat was actually cash positive over the three years I lived aboard.
Chatting to a friend at the weekend. We (Mrs Shuggy and I) are now in our 17th year with the same boat. I don’t think we’ll ever sell her (boat, not Mrs Shuggy*) until we give up sailing or hand the boat onto our children. My friend suggested that not many people keep their boats for 17+ years. Ours is a 70s plastic ‘classic’. Anyone else in the same position? Marisca/awol beats us by some margin I suspect. Anyone else out there who can better 17 years with no intention to move on?
We’re now at the point where we’ve replaced various bits of kit for the 3rd/4th time and it’s probably time for a major refit but I am some way off retiring and using my own labour!
*Sensible offers accepted.20 fantastic years that ended in the blink of an eye, my well planned retirement ' same momenti hope to get back but my yrs &healthcare against me, go for it whilst you are able,
She does look to be in exceptional condition ... sorry you've decided to swallow the anchor, but better to send her off to a new home now than start the slow decline through lack of use.She is currently on the market.
It's getting harder on the body and I find myself sailing less and less.
A few weeks ago I added up what I spent on the boat in 2025 (berth, insurance, maintenance and repairs) and I divided it by the number of days I spent sailing. Every day sailing cost me just over 200 EUR. It's becoming hard/impossible to justify such an expense.
Koeketiene is in top shape and it makes sense to part ways now rather than have her deteriorate over time due to lack of use.
Will I miss sailing: almost certainly. But I have had a good run (over 25 years of boat ownership) and nothing lasts for ever.
