How long did you wait for your new boat?

Hi guys,
I asked the Quicksilver and Merry Fisher dealers in Taiwan to provide quote and also the lead-time. Surprisingly, the lead-time of both are as long as 9 ~ 10 moths. That means, when my new boat arrives in Taiwan, the summer is just about over. August and September are typhoon season in Taiwan.

This just draws me back and freeze my passion immediately.

Did you wait for such a long time when buying a boat?



ps. I choose the standard packs, no any special requirement.

Hi Peter, I’ve had three French boats and I live in France. A small Merry Fisher took about five months, a 7m Beneteau took six or seven months. The Beneteau ST34 was originally supposed to take at least six months but somebody cancelled an order so I was quoted four months for their slot. However the dealer took a long time putting in my extras (not on the options list) then a month of non stop strong winds so the crane couldn’t launch my boat so the total wait was six months.
Remember this is for French boats in France
 
Current boat has been on order since Jan 2017 deliver 24h Nov
Wait list for the boat now is well > than one year; it’s a sailing cat but from what I’ve heard BenJen are looking at an extraordinary order book and dealers are having to accept rationed hulls across the board.

As I said in a previous post, I’ve bought a little Beneteau stock to cover some of my depreciation ;)

Sounds about right. In recent years builders have reorganised themselves to only build boats to definite dealers orders, and dealers tend to only order for firm customers. The reasons are quite simple - firstly the high capital cost of holding stock and second the amount of customer choice of specification is such that there is really no such thing as a "standard" boat.

Sometimes a boat model is really successful and demand exceeds production capacity. The first boat I tried to buy new was 2 years delivery and I changed to a different model with 6 months delivery (Germany to Greece) and my latest purchase was short because of a cancelled order at 3 months delivery (Germany to UK).

I knew it would be some waiting time but did not expect to wait for more than 6 months.
The boating world is a movie played in slow motion mode to me. I need much more patience.

Depends on which boat you order and the manufacturers policies.
As mentioned above, some producents only make them to order , especially the larger more expensive models.

A friend of mine ordered a Viknes in May this year and it was only built after the order was placed , was delivered to him just last week (not to mention that we are talking about a relatively small
distance between Denmark and Norway). Many of the companies can in this way accommodate a few personal wishes from the buyer like colour of wood, teak , and extra addons like bowthrusters, aircondition and so on .....if these are not standard.

Alternatively you can just ask your dealer if he will sell the demo boat they have on display :rolleyes:

Ordered ours at the LBS (Merry Fisher). Delivery initially November, now mid December. If we ordered one now, we've been told it's roughly a years wait. L

I was quoted 3.5 months for a new Quicksilver delivered to Gibraltar. Hit the Internet, found one in stock up the coast and bought her next day. Delivery did take a lot longer due to a slight issue with IVA and export to Gib....and Impounding in Algecieras :-)

If you really want one, then you could perhaps buy from the Uk and get it shipped.

I did try to contact a few UK dealers but get no response at all.

On the other hand, I also worry about the warranty issue in Taiwan. I don't think the Quicksilver or Merry Fisher will buy it if my "direct
imported" boat has any problem.

I think he means under the Christmas Tree, because a boat delivered in December will make a nice Christmas present

Was this by email? If so, I am not at all surprised. My inbox is full of fantastic offers, requests for prices of goods or quotes, and even orders and invoices from all around the world, but often Asia.

Luckily I am not in the sort of business that any if these emails think I am, they are clearly a scam of some sort, or a virus attached to whatever they have attached.

Maybe try a phone call.
