How far is it from Home to your Boat

Currently.. about 50ft.. She's in the back garden coming to the end of a 3 year rebuild. When launched in March at Horning on the Norfolk broads She'll be 13 miles away. or about 1/2 an hour on our single track roads..

The furthest I've been from a boat was 595 miles, when I was living in the Hebrides and the boat of the time was at Horning.. the Ferry journey could take 9 hours if it went via Barra, then still had 480 miles drive from Oban to Horning.

About 250 miles ( 400km ) or a pleasant 5 hr drive across the alps .Under via tunnel in winter .
Med weather and the sea warms up in the summer .

A local glacial melt water filled lake does not appeal .

We're on the Broads too - 101 miles. 1hr 45 depending on the state of roadworks on the A14 and A11. Normally visit every other weekend but its also a doable (long) day trip

Used to do that from MK, .... Before they dualled the A11 and built the Bedford bypass.. Double that time was not uncommon... Driving through Cambridge was always fun...:(

Interesting reply's. I wonder if a persons boat can actually be too close to their home in that with no travel distance there is not so much of a sense of 'going away'. I know the people we bought our sealine from were only a 10 min walk to the Marina and they said that that was a factor for them. If they went to sit on their Boat for a coffee they said they might as well sit in their Conservatory

During lockdown we use the boat as a conservatory and it still felt like we were getting away. I remember lots of times before we moved to the marina when we wanted to use the boat but the thought of 90 minutes of motorway almost put us off. Then there's the ability to do those little 15 minute maintenance tasks at the drop of a hat with all tools to hand...

2 of my boats, launch and day boat, are moored just off the sailing club, which is 250 yds away. My main yacht is in a marina 4.4 miles away. It is the reason I built my house where I did 20 years ago.
Before that the family & I all had sailing dinghies & sailboards. It was 35 mile journey & a pain on a summer Sunday evening in traffic (roadworks etc) going home & having to wash & dry all the wet gear & put it away, with the prospect of work the next day.
Now it is a stroll to the house from the club, after a few of beers on the lounge deck, with friends, watching the sun go down over the river Blackwater. ( & I no longer have to work the following day ;) )

I know exactly what you mean when you say having all the tools to hand :)

Used to be 80 miles (Hamble) now 1300 (Altea, Spain.) Interestingly we have already booked more days on the Spanish boat this summer that we actually spent on the UK boat last year. That said, I miss having a boat to potter about on and when I move to the coast (in retirement) I will buy something small.
