I gather from reading various threads that some people live very close to their boat or even live on it for large chunks of time and some travel quite long distances. I thought it might be interesting to know what the spread is on here.

So starting off.

Regarding my boat in the Marina on the Norfolk Broads I travel about 1 hr 15 mins in the Car.

For my trailer boats and the one on a swing mooring I travel about 45 minutes in the car

500m
er, that is metres not miles :D
still weather is crap haven't been there for almost a week, just check it as I drive past.

We are no longer boat owners, sadly, however for most of the last 20 years the various boats were about a mile or so away, 10 mins door to pontoon.
Before I retired it was about 50 miles, an hour or so depending what mood the A14 was in! We did have a caravan near the boat, so when it was a day racer we could spend the week/weekend without having to drive home each day.

70mile drive to Portsmouth for the ferry.
190 miles Caen to Southern Brittany.
A longish but easy drive with ca 5 hours pleasant ferry crossing.

Interesting reply's. I wonder if a persons boat can actually be too close to their home in that with no travel distance there is not so much of a sense of 'going away'. I know the people we bought our sealine from were only a 10 min walk to the Marina and they said that that was a factor for them. If they went to sit on their Boat for a coffee they said they might as well sit in their Conservatory

BP - very true. When I kept a boat 15mins away, there was always an excuse not to go.

For the last 23 years have kept it 175 miles away - 3.5/4 hours each way, average about 45 weekends every year

true, 5yrs at 500m, I've been there with friends or wife for a drink something like 5-6times. Kids otoh have been using the boat extensively in all sorts of ways

113 miles according to the car's odometer, time to get there up to 4 hrs depending on the number of campers/motorhomes on the road.

At the moment, I have one boat in Vilamoura about 30 minutes drive and another in Porto Recreio de Olhao 10 minutes away. When the other is sold, I will only have 10 minutes to travel which will be awesome, and from there we are straight out into the Rio Formosa with its warm calm waters. I enjoy keeping the boat clean and maintained myself, so being 10 minutes will make that so much easier.
