How far away do you keep your boat?

I like to keep her all round me:)

Or at least underneath me on a sunny day..:):)
Sadly back in the bricks for a short spell whilst wensee doctors Etc, but back on board soon:cool:

Close enough to sit and worry about it when the wind picks up :)

View from the living room, mine is the illuminated one on the right:

The idea of having a boat in the Med. isn't always what it's cracked up to be.
The concept of 'nipping to the boat to do a quick job/measure for something/just have a bit of piece from my long suffering wife etc.' is lost when long distances are part of the equation, so much so I am considering bringing the boat back to Newcastle, at least I can potter and visit the boat, even actually sail - or I am being silly now?

quite right martyn, far better sailing around the uk than in the med.
tried the med for 10yrs either no wind or force 7,gave up & returned to the uk.
Boat in uk we stay in the sunshine, return to uk & sail for 3-4 mths in summer. Theres a lot to be said for retirement.
Unfortunately age comes with it. Its still a hell of a lot better than the alternative.:D:D

Five minutes on foot then five minutes in the tender, but then that's why I transferred job and moved house! Winter storage, seven miles away.

I live in Galicia,Northern Spain within 2hours by car of the famed Rias but at present the boat is in Emsworth and here I must apoogise for bringing the wet weather to the area or so it would seem.Hopefully we will enjoy several years of sailing in the Uk before bringing the boat back to Spain,so to go sailing its about 10 hours door to door.

150 miles, around 2.5 hours and a ferry 2 hours.

Best ever just over 3 hours from house to boat via the tunnel and a middle of the night drive with luck and no stopping at the tunnel terminal.

About 5 mins by car, and same in the dinghy. Presently looking at houses we where discussing the merits of moving further away (10-15mins by car ). Then we would be less likely to nip down for little or no reason :o.

130 miles for yacht 10 feet for laser time to yacht 2.5hrs min to 6 hours max 10 seconds to laser - longer if back door is locked

The advertised limit is one metre. However it is possible with 1.5metres. My current boat draws 1.47 m. There are a few places where you will touch the bottom however if you proceed with caution at these places you should not have a problem. The channel in Lough Beg is silted but with full power it is easy to make progress even though at a reduced speed.
The pilotage of the river and Lough is covered by Michael Savage's excellent book:
"River Bann and Lough Neagh Pilot"

Thanks Underdog!

I'm in North Shropshire and the boat is in Empuriabrava about 1000 miles. 50 minutes to Manchester, an hour at the airport, 2 hour flight and a 40 minute drive at the other end. Managed to get there every month in 2012.

About 220 miles each way, including a chunk of the M25: anything between four and five hours and expensive to drive, but about £55 return on the train if you pre-book. It's OK if you can predict the weather a week in advance, but the Met Office don't seem to be capable of doing it!

Now Zagato as the owner of a certified nice boat you should know that we keep our beloved vessels in our hearts and minds always - not so much as an arm's length away....:)

VERY true, and dreaming of being out in the boat can wipe away most of lifes worries :) 'Don't care because I always have my boat ;)'

My father walks across the green to his  And only pays £190 for the mooring. I am 55 miles so not too bad and the mother in law lives in the same place so I never need to visit her or stay the night :D

About one mile from home to boat and couple of hundred yards from my office, I walk down to the bridge every morning to see if the boats ok. But I do envy people that live else where and use their boat as a holiday cottage

745 km away, about a seven hour drive one way. Woking down south at the moment and hped to spend Christmas aboard.

My eldest son took here out with a few friends on board, a visit to outer Great Barrier Reef, just as well he had no mobile phone that he reach me on, he often sends picures of the fish he pulled in when using the boat.

He lives on board and looks after her very well when I'm land locked.
