How does reverse cycle air-con work?

I asked them to fix my aircon last Tuesday and it was done by Thursday lunchtime. I thought the cost was reasonable.

Mark noticed that our aircon also blasted air out (noisily) almost regardless of the fan setting on the control and he adjusted it, so that now we can alter the fan from reasonably quiet to a strong blast.

hmm, I'm pretty sure that's user programmable on SMX II, as I seem to remember doing it. I don't have a manual to hand though.

The most bizarre thing just happened. Seconds after I pressed "submit reply" SWMBO dropped an SMX II pocket manual in front of me as she's tidying out a cupboard, completely unaware of this thread!

The English is a bit poor, as I think it's translated from American, so i'll replicate it exactly and you can try and interpret it.

To program, press OFF, press SET. Then simultaneously press the combination of keys shown. Succesful entry into the programming mode is indicated by a decimal point in the display window. Use the UP or DOWN key to raise or lower a value. To complete the action, press OFF:

Low fan speed, DOWN & SET, factory setting 32, recommended value 30 to 56

High fan speed, SET & SLOW, factory setting 60, recommended value 41 to 90

There's also reference to a "fan response differential" and how to change it (COOL & SLOW, factory setting 4, rec. value 2 ro 8), but no mention of what that does.

The fan can also be set to run intermittently, only when heating/cooling, or constantly to circulate air to avoid hot or cold spots.

Bit tricky to explain to visitors though.
When set as you say, the first press of any switch "wakes it up"
Then you have to press again to get what you want.
Not a big problem once you've got the hang of it.
Our cabins are done this way but the saloon and dinette are just set as default with this feature off.
Works for us but, as I say, needs to be explained to visitors.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the guidance. I'm at METS this week (stand 11.511 with some v noisy horns!) so can't get to Play d'eau. I know the manual is on board and I know I've tried reprogramming the controls but it's as though changing the program has no effect.

I will have another go and see what's up. If this fails, I'll take advantage of the names given to me in this thread - thanks to one and all for the help.

I'll also ask him about jfm's comment that it may be possible to boost the heat at the air handlers - not a problem you have these days!

Didn't know that. We used to turn the a/c off because of the noise, but the blue glow is bright enough to keep me awake as well, so I'll have a go at changing that next time I'm on board.
