How do you feel about....(NB)

Re: PS

er well, i was not actually having a pop at the french, i like the french too! I agree that they are more proud of their country, and better able to distinguish between govt and the country. Praps the media is a buit out of control here. I must say, reading a local swiss paper a couple of weeks ago, for example, it was mercifully free of disaster and shock horror articles

Can't agree with idealist and naive.

If she had been driven by ideals she would have cried tilt at the time she read the transcripts and resigned from the cabinet.

She didn't

More likely she is being opportunistic, perhaps senses TB is vulnerable and trying to stick in the knife. Maybe sees better career prospects with Brown as PM ( OK shes optimistic)

Probability is that MI6 didn't actually do it. If there was a transcript of a phone call then the phone must have been bugged or tapped, otherwise only one side of the conversation available.

Very difficult to do that in a foreign country, but very easy to do on your home ground. My bet is that US agency did the tap and shared product with MI6, no doubt with some dubious quid pro quo

If it wasn't TB I could almost feel some sympathy for him

hm ok - tho of course now she has nothing to lose and this raises her profile and moral currency - whereas back then she had a job she didn't want to leave, and hung in for quite some time despite her high principles that supposedly drove her to make recent statements. Thus she doesn't have high principles but likes to use the argument.

INcidentally, ido feel that in all this recent stuff, Douglas Hurd is doing the decent thing with his slience. Actually, with him in FCO i can't imagine we'd be where we are now re iraq, but anyway, very good that has has kept mum despite lots of opportunity to sound off.
