How did that get in there ?
Each year I service my anchor windlass to ensure it
is always ready for immediate deployment in case of
emergency, you can imagine my disappointment when
I pressed the down anchor button just to hear a click.
I loosened the top nut which should have allowed the
chain to free fall but it still needed a helping hand down,
with crew safely on the beach digging holes, swimming
and shopping I decided I didnt really want to hand ball
up 60m of chain in the heat so I returned to the boat to
investigate.
I peered into the windlass manual arm hole and got a
bit of a surprise, there was a little eye peering back at me.....
Once dismantled I removed the remains of an Eel which
I estimated to be 5 inches long , that was just the half
that was left in one piece, it must have been 10-12 inches
long, ½ - ¾ inch wide.
Initially I thought it could be an Eel but it didnt smell of fish ,
it could have been a snake , either way once removed the
electric windlass worked immediately .
Anyone want to guess how / why that would want to get
in there ?
