How deep?

Why brave? If you're swimming on the surface (or even duck diving a short way) then it makes no difference how deep it is if you can't see the bottom .... you could be 10m off a UK beach or 200m in the Med ... you still can't touch the bottom /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On the surface - somewhere between 5,000 and 7,000 meters off the coast of Hawaii. I figure the beer bottles would've taken about 15-20 minutes to sink, at 5 m/s, or 1.5-2 hours, at 1 m/s.

Under the surface - 42.9 metres just outside Toulon, diving the wreck of a Dornier bomber.

You dont have to go very far south from Lagos to get well over 1000 metres. Comes as a bit of a shock from Hayling where you have a long way to go to get to 70 metres.

Our echo sounder just about works up to 300 metres (Raymarine) - but only if you are doing 5 kts or less!

You should try it sometime! It'll open up a whole new world!!!It makes it easy to cut ropes of props, sometimes provides you with dinner, and lets you find things you've just dropped over the side...

Most dive centres do "try dives" for about £15...
