How can I watch the cricket and formula1 in the med

If you've got Sky at home, and have access to wifi you can log in using SkyGo on your iPad/tablet or computer. I think you might be able to use it if you have 3g.
 
You need some sort of distance viewing device. Apart from Manaco on one weekend of the year, the locals are not known for their love of loud cars or cricket. You could try Gilbraltar - as they are more English than the English, they might play.

Personally, I'd be very wary of handing over my DNS control to a somewhat shifty company. I'd rather go with a VPN or proxy service.

In relation to Formula 1, depending where you are, many countries show this on terrestrial TV. If you have a TV with a DVB tuner and a decent antenna, you can often pick up the local feeds. The Formula 1 video is exactly the same everywhere, it's just the commentary that changes. For British commentary, tune into BBC Radio 5 Live through the BBC website. This will work without a VPN/DNS/proxy and will also save on your bandwidth usage if you're using 3G.

Shifty?

If you have a dedicated device like an Amazon FireTV then just don't use it for anything private. If it's a multifunction device like an Ipad, what's wrong with
  1. Modify DNS settings on the device
  2. Watch telly
  3. Restore old DNS settings

I wouldn't. All vpn providers terminate your tunnel as you exit their service (of necessity) and therefore can examine and manipulate your content. Ditto proxies. Also, the free ones also sell your browsing info (VPN and proxies). It's much harder for a DNS provider to track your browsing habits (page hits etc) and market them.

I use unblockr.net at a couple of quid a month. Enables access to nbcsports too.

While backpacking in Greece I used to scout out local hotels the day before a race to find the ones with a telly in the bar. Hotels catering for Germans always a reasonable target as they tend to be into their F1. RTL's coverage (which seemed to be available on everyone's satellite TVs) used to be pretty good and their presenter was way better than the British pundits but coverage unfortunately in German (well, obviously not unfortunate if you speak German better than anything else).
 
FilmOn TV works well on my iPad.

In France we can use the telly, which is how we saw the Royal Jubilee, much better than the BBC, and sometimes Des Chifres et Lettres.

+1 Filmon.com We used it to watch every F1 race on BBC last year via free WiFi. I didn't want to watch them live and preferred to pick late evening times by using the record feature. This is free and worked well even when Wifi was too slow to stream. Filmon lets you record 10 hours free and keep it for 30 days. I haven't downloaded anything since Nov. last year but assume nothing has changed.

This is a man that enjoys the destination more than the journey!

I always listen to the GP on the radio - Radio 5 Live's coverage used to be excellent before SKY poached all the presenters.
As for the cricket - I thought that was what Long Wave was for?
