The glistening naked thighs of the African princess at my side are quivering at the prospect of a book forum, and even as she nobly removes all her clothes and glides towards me in the moonlit evening, I can't help feeling that Wilbur Smith novels should be under the slightly porny classification, rather than the slightly boaty section. I've read loads of them and can't recommend them at all, ahem.

[/ QUOTE ]Agree. He's as bad/good at formula fiction as Michael Creighton of Jurassic Park / Prey etc crud. Wish I could understand why they sell so well coz then I might take up forumla fiction as a new career.

Both are writers that you can put down.

'Hungry as the Sea' was absolute crap. The guy can never have seen a salvage tug, let alone been on one. Oh yes, and the million(?) tonne tanker that slid down the ways, was turned by the tugs, and went straight out to sea heading for the Gulf. Jeez, do some freakin' research if you want to be an author!
