Screen washers are running constantly as soon as we switch on the freshwater pump. I have even thrown the circuit breaker for the screen wash but water continues to pump. Only way to stop it is by turning the fresh water pump off which is a pain in the butt.......

.........any ideas anyone??

It could be that the washers are driven by pressure from the cold water system, through a normally closed electric valve which is opened by pushing the button. If so, work your way through the water supply, from the washers, and see if you can find the valve. It should be a thin hose to the valve, with another thin joining into the thicker 1/2 inch or so main cold supply going forward, probably in the bilge under a floor panel where it can be accessed easily. When you find it, check if there is a way to manually close the valve - it may just be stuck open. You could verify the wiring by checking that you get 12v over the valve when you switch the washers on, and oherwise not, which if so would also suggest the issue is with the valve rather than the wiring or switch. Does it make a sound when it has 12v over it?

Cheers Eugene........I am thinking that a soleneid valve/switch is the problem..............currently have the Princess 42 Handbook open........which gives a rough idea as to where said switch/valve is...............but finding it without removing the saloon interior is another question!!!

We had a similar problem - and, yes, it was a solenoid valve off the fresh water system
Our solenoid valve was easy to get to under the main cabin floor next to the fresh water header.
It was a simple matter to strip it down and clean it.
I took the precaution of fitting an isolating valve so it can now be isolated

As said above - if you can't find it, Peter is your man.

I thought it was in the lazarette area on the 42. Just pull the microwave out and take a look, it might just have a bit of debris in the valve holding it off its seat, this happens with the jabsco quiet flush toilets sometimes.

I recon it will be nearby a water supply header
That means to me that it would be under the floor on the accommodation deck.
It probably isn't too far from the windscreens either - the pipe from the windscreen washers is a small flexible one but will probably run straight down to the bilges where there is a water supply header nearby.
I'd start lifting some floor panels in your lower deck companion way
The solenoid valve will be bolted to a bulkhead.
I don't agree with Paul - it wouldn't make sense running the small flexible pipe all the way to the lazerette when there is a fresh water supply below the windscreens.
As I said above, it was a doddle to strip it down and clean it and we then fitted an isolating valve so that if it happened again, it could be easily isolated.

This is what you are looking for

Hi Mike, True, not been on the forum for ages as not found time. Still out most weekends though and I do bump into peeps in the solent area all the time. Poole was good last week though and had good trip both ways.

This post just caught my eye tho - quite amusing as I still hear it a lot!
Jenny Wrenn still logging plenty of Miles?
