Hot water not getting very hot?

If it's broken it's broken. What Paul was saying was effectively wiggle it back and forth and it might free up. The test is whether water comes through hot when it's set to hot. If not then remove or replace, but go to a plumbing store not a chandler. The part should be a tenner and fits using standard threads usually. Removing is actually slightly harder since you'd have an open cold feed that would need sealing off :)

Would it not be worth running the hot water for a while & then gripping the hot pipe just before the tap first. That will tell you if very hot water is getting to the mixer but it is the mixer that is stopping it coming through. If the pipe is quite cold then the supply is cold to start with & not the mixer at fault.
Is that not an option?

The two pipes and this valve are very hot to the touch but the water is only just above warm, not hot.

Nope

Yes they do them. I must admit not a tenner, but a lot better than £80. bear in mind that the one here is for copper tube, but the olive joints unscrew and you can attach the fittings you'll have on board (probably) to the thread. I used household flex hoses for mine because it was easy. I'm sure if you look around you'll get a cheaper one. They really are all basically the same.

I’ve forced the valve open but now it’s well and truly broken as it will no longer move in either direction. Good news is that hot water is restored.

I’ll search for a replacement when I’m back at home.

Thanks to all for your helpful advice.

Many but not all issues with thermostatic valves can be due to calcine deposits. It might pay to run a descaler through the system. Obviously not.
There are safety issues with marine calorifiers because of the high temperatures 80-90 degrees

At least you confirmed that it's the issue.

It's now stuck/broken but giving very hot water from the boiler. Water temp is easily adjustable by the taps but I'd like to replace the valve. I'm now back at home so researching for a replacement thermostatic valve. This is a picture of the one one the boat.

There are a lot available from various sources but almost all have wrong port orientation. Most have in-line hot and cold input with mixed-out at 90 degrees. I need hot-in and mixed-out in-line with cold-in at 90 degrees.

Despite my searching, I have't yet found one with the correct port orientation. At a push, I guess that I could change the feed pipes but I'd prefer not to.

Any suggestions as to where I can source a like-for-like version (at reasonable cost)?

Dosn't the one available from various sources as a mixer valve for Quick calorifiers have the right configuration?
Yes, VicS, that's the correct orientation but its approx £100. All of the others seem to sell for £30 to £50. Unless I can find one that isn't gold plated, I have to decide between changing the pipes or paying for the privileged of it being specially designed for affluent boat owners

Cheapest Quick one i can see is here: Quick FLKMT1500300A00 THERMOSTATIC MIXING VALVE KIT

The Surecal one is very similar: Thermostatic Mixing Valve for Hotpot Calorifiers (15mm)

For the sake of a tenner i think i'd go for the direct replacement Quick one (Double check it's correct for your calorifier).

The fittings are standard flex hose threads so you can if you wish move the valve quite successfully without a big headache.
