Trying to figure out what to do about the hosepipe ban here - wondering how hard is it to scrub off with a bucket and brush.

Might just stay in for a while hoping for it to go away.

Cheers

Make sure it is a soft brush or better still a big chunky sponge. We have been brushing our skiff and it shows !!

When filling the potable water tank one should run the hose for a minute before use. Rather than waste the run-off, I think it is entirely ethical to use it for washing the boat. Unfortunately, I seldom need to fill my 250l tank and thus my boat has to suffer guano that has been scrubbed off with a brush and bucket but left unhosed. It is now the avian blackberry season, which doesn’t help.

I think you could argue that scrubbing off is maintenance, not washing. People are still scrubbing off at my club; not sure about the racers who do it every month, but I wouldn't have a problem with a single mid-season scrub.

Your club may be supplied by Portsmouth water who do not have a ban!

Official club line is it's not allowed.

Can't really see it being in the spirit of the ban to jetwash (not wanting to sound like an apologist for Southern Water).

Coppercoat though, so hopefully a stiff brushing would be fine. Wondering if it would be worth doing on a scrubbing pad, pre-haulout, when you've got an infinite water supply (doing it as tide rises or falls).

Do you consider it within the spirit to wash off the untreated sewage they dumped in the various rivers? Water isn't a scarce resource, it's just badly managed.

Portsmouth water is not currently having a ban, so I have power washed one of my boats about a week back but it was kept as brief as possible as it doesnt look good but the boat has not been washed down since this time last year  If I was in an affected area I would use sea water through a pump as has been suggested and then refrain from licking the deck for 7 days.

Liking these suction non-mains ideas.

Scheme in our club is to park on the slip for a bit after haul-out while we clean the bottom, thinking can just lead a hose from Jetwasher to the sea, maybe a add filter on the end and it's sorted.

A few things would have to go your way I guess:- saltwater not wrecking the washer (would do quick flush with mains after), not loosing too much pressure - garden hose not being too unsuitable for suction (I used a short length once to suck water+additive mix out of bucket).
