Today the Insurer has send me an email confirming that they will repay me for the invoices that I have already paid and will pay for the repair costs to my boat :):):)

As many of you will know, the Insurer's initial position was that my policy did not cover me. I would once again like to thank all those of you who offered me your support and advice as this was very comforting during the immediate aftermath.

A REALLY BIG THANK YOU is due to JFM for the amazing support and advice he provided to me and for the 'killer' letter he drafted which clearly articulated that not only was the Insurer's position incorrect it was untenable as demonstrated by the findings of the metallurgical report that they had commissioned.

Another REALLY BIG THANK YOU is due to David Allen of Southwater Marine who had been extremely helpful and supportive during those difficult days and appreciative of my cash flow situation whilst undertaking the repair work. I am sure David treats his other customer with the same degree of care, which I am sure is why his engineers are so busy.

I suppose grudging appreciation must be given to the Insurer for their willingness to change their position relatively quickly, considering

For anyone considering buying a boat with a marine mortgage please beware that if your boat suffers from an accident where it loses value and the Insurer won't pay your claim that your lender may well seek for immediate repayment of your mortgage and will come after your other assets  SWMBO took just such a call from our lender shortly after our insurer had confirmed that due to the metallurgists report confirming corrosion that they were unable to meet our claim. It was only after I spoke to them the next day to remind them I hadn't missed a repayment and reassure them that the boat wasn't valueless and I was able to self-fund and begin the repairs to return the boat to the appropriate value that they because reasonable again.

On the plus side, I can now get a bow thruster installed :D To the purists out there who think they aren't necessary on a twin engine boat :p

Outstanding News!! great to hear and i am sure, a massive weight from your shoulders!

Help yourself to a well earned glass of wine tonight and enjoy it safe in the knowledge your pride and joy is going to be restored to its former glory.

really really pleased for you!

What a great result! And good to hear that Southwater Marine have been so supportive in a difficult time. And of course JFM did a great job. You must be very relieved.

How long until you are back on the water?

Yes, a big relief. I can stop saving every penny now and start living a little again.

I honestly don't know the answer to that. I have posed that very question to David today ;) I think the contract electrician they use could be on the critical path as he is a little booked up.

Great news, well done to you and your forum advisors. No doubt a huge weight lifted from your shoulders and you can again look forward to your boating.

Congratulations Seahope , hope you get to splash her bum back in this year , and hats of to JFM , one of lifes diamonds we only seem to meet rarely nowadays .

Excellent - that is superb news - a huge thanks to JFM from me too ... not because he helped me - but because it is partly this selfless support that makes these forums so successful....

Just as long as the insurers don't start having a tick box to declare you're a member of this forum and use that as an excuse to put your premium up!! ;)

Great news and undoubtedly the right and fair response from insurers.

I'd echo all the comments above and above all Zippy's suggestion of a glass or two - well earned ;)

Looking forward to a more upbeat thread soon detailing her first run out once repairs completed...! :p

Thats really great news and well played, jfm. It does beg the question though whether insurers are now refusing all claims on principle until they are forced to change their mind because I'm quite sure that your claim would have been accepted without question a few years back

not alot more to add.. just truely made up for you and of course a reiteration and well done to both JFM for his assitance and you for sticking to your guns:cool::cool:

Congratulations and what a relief, I hope your get back to boating soon for a well earned break.

I guess without JFM's help, it might not have turned out so good, what a kind and descent guy he is. This forum has true value when it helps other get out of such grief.

Good luck with the boat.

Thats great news for you, just shows us all on here, never take a answer lying down keep fighting! well done to JFM for his help, I hope the boats up and running asap.
