Honda inboard - any experience

AFAIK Honda never made a Diesel inboard - or indeed any small diesel (but I could of course be wrong). The only Honda inboard I recall is a petrol 8hp or so powerhead linked to a Volvo 110 saildrive - but very few actually sold.

Engine panel in photo say Bukh which would make sense - probably an 8hp or could be a DV10. That is one big step up from your Volvo.

Boat was designed by Laurent Giles, hence similarity to Westerlys, but does not have the same cache so prices usually lower.

Once looked a Pegasus 800 with a Honda Petrol saildrive unit, I've never seen a Honda diesel unit. Seemed a neat installation and apart from the fact it was petrol seemed to have a reasonable reputation.

I say apart from Petrol because I do not like the thought of carrying petrol in an enclosed boat, it's bad enough having gas on board. But if you were careful and made sure all the fuel lines were in good condition should not be an issue.

I think it's probably a mistake in the ad. Maybe it has the Bukh inboard plus a Honda outboard, and the broker got confused?

Sailer 23 + beaching legs... cheaper and lighter than a Pageant... but much smaller user base than Westerly so maybe a false economony in the long run when trying to sell DVDs.

I think it's a mistake too; never heard of a Honda diesel, but did look at Etap 26's with a Honda petrol saildrive.

I suppose it could be a BMW engine if the 'car maker' anology has lodged in someone's mind ? They made small light diesels, as mentioned in another thread I know Pageant no.1 had one of these, so sounds about right.

Cor you can see how L-G developed the Pageant/ Centaur range from that can't you!

My Pentland has a wooden strut & an S/S pole supporting the cabin top mast step - that seems to rely solely on the strength of the bulkhead. I'd check it carefully for stress cracks, but suspect it may not have been sailed that hard if it has spent much time on the Broads.

The boat behind it in picture 2 looks like it could do for you ;)
