will be looking to buy a honda EU20i generator in september, was probably going to see if any deals being offered at the boat show (if any there), but failing that was going to buy online somewhere.

Anyone brought one recently and can recommend a supplier?

You'll be lucky to get a deal on a Honda even s/h they aren't much cheaper, excellent kit though. However if you are only looking at occasional use I can recommend a Kipor 2600, third of the price of the Honda and hasn't let me down yet in 3 years.

Bought one about 4 months ago! They are awesome, it has totally changed our boating, we used to run out of batteries after about 72 hours, now we run out of water first, managed 5 days a few weeks ago :)

Bought ours 2nd hand from Offmains - chap called Peter Noble

www.offmains.co.uk

Very nice chap, did exactly what he said he was going to do. I think he buys and re-conditions them, anyhow he also converted ours to gas so we can run off petrol or butane which is handy. (I have no relation to Offmains at all, found them on the web)

Noise wise when I fist fired it up I was amazed how quite it was, I knew it was one of the quietest around but even so I was surprised. Only negative, they are heavy we have a fold away dolly trolly for ours which helps.

Honda give a 5 year warranty if you get it serviced by a Honda chap which is good to.

PM if you want to know money, Peter's number or anything else.

Another vote for Honda EU20i ... absolutely top class generator ...circa £750 from a good supplier here in Northern Ireland, but probably not much use to you.

A good deal more information on here if you do a Search "Generators" ...

One other plus for 'Suitcase' generators is that they are portable and can be used for multiple purposes, at home etc. Like you, I assessed the various options, though for me it was more for cooking as I don't like gas and for boat battery charging. I opted for the Honda EU20i. Also have a change over switch on home electrics and it provides power for essentials during power cuts. In addition it is good solution for extending the scope & range of 240v power tools.

Honda over priced and under powered. 2.0i only 1.6 kva continuous output.

Go for Kipor, Trent, or one of the others on the market. Half (at least) price of Honda, had my Kipor for 5 years now, utterly reliable, quiet and done hundreds of hours now.

I bought a kipor ig20 a few weeks ago and cant complain seems well made for the money would be interested in a side by side noise test !!!
I like the auto throttle mode (dont know if honda has this)

Was going to buy an Eu20i, then came across the Kipor 2600 at 3rd of the price. It does the job well, similar fuel use etc but I think they are a tiny bit noisier - but does not cause us a problem - great piece of kit for the money.

Another vote for the Kippor IG200i sinemaster inverter. Whilst only used to run power tools and emergency central heating boiler socket in the house, fairly quiet, first or second pull starting every time and I believe were the result of a "factory production over run" when building gennies for Honda.

All the engine and generator parts are supposed to be directly interchangeable with the Honda EU20i. whether this is still true or not, Honda had thousands of Kippors crushed for breach of patent or some such skullduggery.
