Honda charging output

Hi, does the Honda bf5a need a load to start the charging output? Just probed the output with my multimeter but got no reading.

Yeah. If it’s anything like the wee output on small Yamaha. You’ll get next to nothing from it unless it’s rpms are up a fair bit. Even then…it’s a tiny output to be honest.
id have thought you’d get some reading though, even at low rpms. Are you getting absolutely zero voltage or amps at all ? Is it all wired up for an output ? Some aren’t.

Yeah, all wired up. i was probing the output socket and only getting a a few millivolts reading, probably stray voltage. Haven't checked any further back yet. It's only a little punt but I thought it would be nice to get it charging so i can fit a little bilge pump and battery just to get the rain water out. I'll investigate further down the line before the rectifier to see if that's the problem.
