Is it just my bad luck or are others Honda BF2 having rusting nuts as well? On my BF2 the nut heads on the underside are rusting, either very low grade stainless or not stainless at all. This is 2nd one the first being exchanged after endless problems. At least its starting well now but to find rust developing does give me cause for concern over how long it will last!

Mine also beginning to show signs of rust, 3 years old, but I do always wash in fresh water after use.
Regarding starting, mine usually needs at least half a dozen pulls when first starting after a weeks storage.
If I switch on the fuel and let it stand for a couple of minutes it starts easier; no triouble starting for the rest of the day.
BUT has just started playing up in that after a short run the engine just stops - plenty of fuel etc - and usually just a few yards from my boat...

I'd rather be sailing... :)

Hi!, no, you are not alone with rusting....the nuts appear to be poor quality.
On draining the fuel bowl last year, the drain screw sheared..fortunately my friendly local retired engineer enjoyed the challenge and made a new screw. I now undo it once a month to prevent seizing!
Having said all that, mine starts first pull everytime even after 4/5 years..it sits in an outboard store in the yard (old container) which gets very hot and humid and by way of a treat I flush it with fresh water at the end of the season, change the oil and stand it in my garage for the winter.
Despite the rusting, I am very pleased with it...

Good luck! - Tony P

Ours has been fine too, starts easily and has reasonable amount of ommph. The nuts are a bit manky, although a squirt of WD40 now and again seems to help. The only proble I have is that the cut out to stop the thing is playing up, with the result that the engine does not stop when I want it to even after pulling the cord out. Any suggestions?
