Honda 8 outboard not starting

When I was removing the outboard from my boat, stupidly I disconnected the positive terminal at the outboard before disconnecting it at the battery. The inevitable happened and as I pulled the lead out, it shorted against the engine casting. Now the engine will not start having always been a first time starter.
I have checked the fuses that I can see and they are OK. Presumably something in the ignition circuit has blown.
I would appreciate any ideas as to what the fault is likely to be and how to fix it?

It is Honda model number HZ BF8 DLRU, built in 2012.

This has remote controls with electric starting ?

Are you saying it cranks OK but does not fire ? If so check the emergency stop switch.

If it does not crank check the in gear start inhibit switch and the 20A fuse in the white wire

If you have electric PTT does that work? Any electrics at all?

Replace the fuse anyway unless you've checked it with a meter. Fuses can look fine but still be u/s. Use a meter and prove continuity, including with the switch in the cranking position. With the ignition on, bridge the poles of the starter solenoid and see if it turns over then.

Yes, it has remote controls with electric starting.

It turns over fine and the kill switch tab is in position. Not sure what you mean by 'check the emergency stop switch'.

I have turned it over with the spark plug removed but pressed onto the engine casting and there was no spark, which is why I think that it is an ignition problem.

Starter motor operates as normal in terms of turning the engine over.

Only visually checked the fuse so I will use a meter on it tomorrow.

The kill switch ... especially now that you have confirmed that it cranks but there is no spark

Yes test the fuse properly but if that is the 20A one in the white wire It would not crank if it was blown

I realised that you meant the kill swich but my doubt is to how I should check it apart from making sure the slider is inn place.

Checked the fuses with a meter and they are fine.

Now intend to take the outboard to Liverpool Power Boats so they can have a look.
