I have made a list for my holiday must have’s for two weeks in the Greek islands but I am sure that there is something I have left out..... Here is the provisional list

Collapsible ice bag (for the most important holiday essential)
Quality lilo
Spray water bottle
Hair dryer (mmmmmm!!!) no not for me!
Hat
Sun glasses (for the early mornings only)
That old t shirt
First aid kit
Decent charts and up-to-date pilot
Cocktail booklet
Water proof box.

Anything else I need? What do you take?

And what’s all this about a 200% rise in some prices, meals booze etc, as reported in The Sunday Times.... Is it true?

Well, I've gathered a checklist of 60 or so things which I take sailing on an unknown boat, but if I had to choose just two, I'd go for antihistamines to protect against insects, and a roll of duct tape for everything else.

Just got back from the Cyclades meself. Would recommend some proper sun-burn lotion - Solarcaine is the stuff.

Also I was suprised by the prices for fresh provisions even on some of the larger islands. The market prices for fresh veg etc were worse than Tescos. Don't even bother with buying fish.
Eating out isn't terribly cheap as I was led to believe either...to get the sort of prices we expect we needed to hike a long way inland.

Don't expect any sense on CH16 either. it was a source of constant entertainment for us, as it was entirely populated by People singing at each other and playing music.
The only thing that shut everyone up was a Mayday-relay via DSC.

If you do stop at a mooring, to get water, diesel etc....it always helps to book the water man, and expect that to be on Greek time - so for 18.00 read anytime before 21.00.
Anyway - one final comment, if you get to Santorini, and the delightful marina at Vlahada, the GWP is wrong about the port side of the entrance being the deepest. The channel has never been dredged, and it is only 1.5M deep. Stick to the Starboard side!

Enjoy!

Small denomination Euro notes...

.. are useful to pay the Port Police for your stay plus a tranquilizer to maintain your patience whilst they do the endless paperwork in this state sponsored job creation scheme.

Around E1.60 for a 44ft yacht is about the going rate & you can still get cheap meals and wines in most places. My first trip to Greece (sailing) was in 1978 and you could get a meal for around £.90. Now it will cost around £6. A Ford Escort was £1095 then. Does a Focus cost more or less than £7300 now? Hardly rip-off pricing but it's (as most Greek business owners will tell you) down to the introduction of the Euro. Can't expect a fellow state in the USE to be a pauper state now can we? Wait till it happens here!

Buy a large screw-top container WHEN YOU GET THERE so that you can fill it with a bag of "Party Ice" from a supermarket. Not only will it give you ice for drinks but it will help the fridge to keep cool without draining down the batteries. Something for cockroaches might also be a good idea. But are you driving down? (we did last trip in June) otherwise Easyjet et al might be unsympathetic to your hoard!

insect spray
A decent waterproof torch that floats
A stick on tattoo on your arm that reads ' Iwill not try the local homemade ouzo'
You can refer to it when you need reminding

...It was like that when i found it!

I would leave the thermals out though....:)

The boat we chartered from was well specced up, and had lots of new gear, including a DSC radio. Who are you chartering from?
