Holding tank supplier in Essex

Your best bet is to have one made to measure Tec Tanks. How small is small you will be srprised at how quickly they fill up, particularly if you flush properly.

Jabsco do a bog standard one with a macerator attached. The tank and pump are only the start of it. It requires much planning and more bits than you imagine. I can tell you where to get hose and clips at sensible prices.

I had one made to measure by Tek Tanks. It is only about 45 ltrs and does require careful management. Siting is also important as if it is far from the loo then lots of flushing will fill it up quickly.

It's great to have but its a lot of work and you need to get it right. So think about size, location, hose runs, own seacock or shared, vent position, deck pump out, gauge and switch position. Look at Tek Tanks site for excellent ideas. They also have a section for custom tanks made for different model boats and costings.

Happy to run through my set-up with you.

Tek-Tanks have a large range of standard sizes, and if one of those fits into your locker, it's a good compromise between a custom-fitted and an off-the-shelf one. Tek-Tanks will sort out all the fittings for you, placing them exactly where you want on their standard tank, and advise and supply all the extra kit you need.

Remember that all those fittings and hoses, seacocks, valves etc also take up room outside the tank, so you may lose more locker space than you wanted to.

I went to Stansa - a small company just outside Ipswich

See here.

I mocked up the tank in MDF - fitted it to make sure it fitted & all the pipe entry / exits were in the right place. Gave it to Joe at Stansa who made it out of 9mm plastic.

Extremely good price but not quite as 'marine-market pretty' as Tek-Tanks but it does the job.

He does work for Fox's etc.

Highly recommended (by me at least).

hiya Ian
hope you and bangers are well, why do you want a holding tank ?? i have 2 on my boat and never use them also as mentioned before the plumbing is a nightmare, let alone the tank, drain, pump out there is also the switch over valve... i looked at mine and thought i would suss it out but decided to leave well alone...lol
if your thinking about visiting where you cant use a sea toilet best bet would be take out your out loo out and get a canister type to put in its place.

The use of a holding in many marinas, particularly lock controlled, is appropriate unless you like trekking up to the loo block in the rain or at night or in a hurry etc. Even on a river with an incoming tide..........

Using one isn't that difficult!

yes i agree Moody but many boats like Ians and prob most under 40ft do not have holding tanks... what do they do ??
the chapest option i would guess is for the canister type loo.
we have used the canister loos before when up the river and found them very quick and easy to dispose.

We wished we had one on our first visit to Southwold - when the pub and club are shut its a long walk. Then when we were planning a long trip in Holland I thought we'd put a holding tank in. It's nice to have and inevitable in the end. Blimey banning strokes was bad enough but today I couldn't even buy a frosted light bulb! Our EU friends will legislate soon on such important matters as boat loos regardless of the financial collapse - pick off the easy targets first!

Hi All,

MANY thanks for all the help and advice.

H&S = Me and Bangers are good thanks, we survived the family weekend!!
Hope you guys are good?
We are putting in the holding tank as we want to go to Holland next year.

Roger = That would would be great to have a peep at your loo installation (why does that sound so dodgey!!! ).

It does look like a lot of hassle, and from what I can tell they need unblocking from time to time... but I guess that is down to the individuals :D

A chemical one may be an option for two weeks.

Used a porta-potti on board on our Dutch cruise this time. Was OK but a bit tedious for 5 weeks. Jury's out on whether or not to fit a holding tank this winter (it's that expensive that it's a "are we going to change this boat soon" kind of question), but I agree that rules and regs for UK waters will inevitably come along sooner or later, perhaps triggered by the deliberations over Marine Conservation Zones.

Does anyone know where I can get a Loo waste holding tank from?
Ideally just looking to fit a small one in one of the hanging lockers.

I was thinking of fitting one of these 25L Vetus Bulkhead mounted tanks as it appears to be small enough to fit snugly towards the back of my heads.

I was looking at going gravity for draining as I don't want the complexity of pump outs and all that. I used the gravity method of emptying the tank when I chartered in Greece and it worked pretty well. Very simple and not a lot to go wrong.

From what I can see it's a case of fitting a switchable diverter valve (one direct to outlet the other to tank). I switch to flush to tank or directly outboard. When I want to empty the tank simply open the sea cock and let gravity do the rest. I then flush the loo a few times after waiting a few minutes to clear the inside of the holding tank down before closing the sea cock.

From what I've priced up so far (new pipes and all that) it should be around the 400 quid mark in total.
