Holding Tank sludge

Apologies for resurrecting an old smelly thread, but what did Piers use to de-gunk his holding tank?
Mine seems to have a layer at the bottom that has been stood fermenting for years.

Hi kashurst. I used a brilliant product from Lee Sanitation called Green and Clean. But i think the name has been changed. Michael Punter is the guy to contact. Certainly, the product cleraed the layer you describe from our tank 100%.

They sell a patio cleaner here in Spain called aqua fuerte, about €2-50 for 5 litres, cleaned my holding tank easily. It’s obviously some sort of fairly concentrated acid, I guess nothing else but an acid will be effective.

This product is bacteria which just happens to adore eating old hard crusted pooh and turning it into a liquid. It's non-corrosive. Worked really well.

Green and clean is still listed on their website, but I think its now called dometic tank cleaner

I might have to get some and give it a go with my tank.

Is it as simple as the dometic website implies, ie just drop a sachet of the stuff into your toilet bowl and flush it into the tank?

How long do you need to leave it before pumping the tank out?

Or is there more to it than that?

We use Noflex Digestor
Lots of info and customer reviews on the web Trawler forum is a good one for information
It does two jobs gets rid of the odors and sludge most people are surprised that it really does what it says on the label

it's in England now at

jetvac.co

Its really surprising good product

Ive ordered some. My boat is 12 years old and as far as i know the tank has never been cleaned, well see what lovely gunge comes out of it.

Well I put 3 sachets of "Green and Clean" into a 14 year old holding tank with a distinctly icky layer in the bottom that wouldn't come out. Left it swilling about for @ 10 days. Tank nearly full today so went to have it emptied. It has worked a treat, tank completely emptied and nasty niffs banished all for £12 and zero effort. Another boon for the lazy boater. Thanks for the tip Piers.

Impressive. I would never have believed it last year when I was cleaning the holding tank out!

You're welcome. I was amazed when it worked for me! I'd found it hard to believe LeeSan's advice, but I did what they suggested, and hey ho, just as you said, it worked!
