Based on that track, I'm guessing "loss of steering control" unless the crew were trying doughnuts with a freighter.
Good that everyone is safe.

My thoughts exactly.....looks like they've turned to the east as per normal and just carried on turning, or whomever was steering just totally lost the plot....

Apparently at 45 degs.. and half the tide to drop. I'm wondering if we'll wake up to a real nasty situation with vessel on its side, pollution etc, etc..... not good..

Did she hit Bramble Banks at HW? If LW is at 3:30am at 1.2m and she has a draught of 9m so I'm guessing she'll end up on her side by the end of the night?

The bottom of these ships is more or less flat, so she wouldn't fall over like a fin-keeled yacht. Presumably the current list is due to the slope of the seabed, and so might not increase. Although with the tide scouring away the sand and the ship potentially moving about, anything could happen really...

Would there not be a pilot on board? If so I would expect cause was out of his control.
Thats what I would have thought too or at least the ship was being guided by a harbourmaster's or pilot launch. The course does seem to suggest some kind of steering malfunction.

Looks like there could be some pre-dented and pre-rusted vehicles on the market soon then!

The crew reported that she remained watertight, so hopefully no rust.

Question is, how securely are the cars attached? Could be ok if they are...?
