I guess the next step will be taking a voice print of the caller, and matching new distress calls to recorded voice prints.

It's a copy of a press release, intended to give information to journalists and editors, not for general public particularly. The telephone number is in the 'Notes to Editor' suffix - not meant for general public to call up to ask for.

Is for say BBC to call and ask for, then can play on radio, TV and put on their website if they want to

<hr width=100% size=1> I asked an economist for her phone number....and she gave me an estimate

Pity these morons need to be taught a lesson, if the voice was on general release somebody my recognise it. I thought the coast guard guys had good d/f gear, would have thought these type of calls were made from the shore, you would think they would be able to tell if it were likely to be a hoax that way.

Yes but then they would have to know that the hoax call was coming first, then know to triangulate it with another station.

I think the coastguard get a bearing on all ch16 calls. I think the bearing is taken from two seperate directional sites and gives a virtually instant positional fix.
