Ebay ad for that was posted on here a couple of weeks ago!

Those Mk 1 boats were originally fitted with a Volvo Penta MD1 diesel......... but see all Dylanwinter's tales of woe :(

Mk2 boats had taller rig with more sail area but were usually outboard powered. Not sure without looking it up if the ballast was increased ... probably.

Vire engines .... ???? ... not the best the world has ever seen!.... you may want to go down the outboard route !

I take it you will be removing the poop shelter !

Good little boat underneath if you dont have any engine probs but I guess they are not the most exhilarating to sail , hence the increase in sail area for the Mk 2 boats.

If you've not already done so, you should google 'keep turning left' and sit back and watch the films. You will learn plenty about the mirror.. Well worth it.

And you will realise that "offshore" is not necessarily their best environment, however they are well capable of coping with bad weather if you can. They are an excellent little boat, but please get rid of the awful shed on the stern. It will prevent you keeping a lookout, prevent you sailing in light winds & stop you being able to motor in strong winds.

Aren't Vire a petrol 2stroke? If so it will suffer from ignition issues & the plugs will oil up when run on tick-over for longish periods.

please start a blog about your adventures with her

just stick an outboard on the back, find somewhere reasonably sheltered to sail it and have great fun with it

watch these swedes having a ball with theirs

in a recent research project undertaken by the Institute of Yacht Psychology it was shown that 47.3 per cent of the advice you are offered on the forums is well worth ignoring

The shed on the back is a fishing shelter. I looked at one of these recently but didn't like the lack of side decks. They can stand up to a good deal of weather but you need the engine to claw of a lee shore. I'd put a diesel in if you can get one cheap and return it to the original layout which was carefully thought out by Mr van de stadt.

Second the request for a blog - my brother in law took a quick ganders at this but we just didn't have the time to seriously contemplate taking it on, maybe next year...

Seriously good luck and I think the transformation this will undergo will be well worth recording and sharing.

sorry taken soo long to reply.

Thanks for all the reply, I've removed the shelter from the rear (looks alot better) and put a battrey in her n she goes to start just got to connect fuel filter and the end of the exhaust into its housing at the rear of the boat then get coupin in a shaft align(that's why prop looks too close to boat)lol then with some luck might even start, the person I brought it of only got it 12 months ago I think so I guess its been reconditioned, she gets put in tbe water on jan 2nd so time will tell how she is in the water, I've been given loads of spare sails n bits for tbe boat half I don't know what it is lol, I'll upload some more pictures tomorrw after I get back from doing those ,itle bits.

She will look great when you have finished!

I had a choice between a mirror and a Norman S19. I chose the Norman, which turned into a 5 year project as it was rotten. I sold it before I got it into the water, so I dearly wished I had chosen the mirror! However, we took the Vire 6 out, popped a new spark plug in, gave it a little fuel and it started on the 2nd pull of the cord! There is a website for them here:

As suggested, you need to look at Keep Turning left. I think Dylan paid about £2000 for his, which seems expensive now as boat prices seem to have plummeted! I just sold my Caprice with trailer for £550 for a quick sale (sold in less than 24 hours!)

There used to be an owners site and forum. Maybe someone else has the link?

Above all - enjoy it!

Regards

Carl
